Remington 1187 12 gauge 3.5" 23"
« on: May 07, 2020, 07:36:14 PM »
I was not looking to add anymore shotguns for the next few years but I came across a brand new Rem 1187 in 12 gauge 3.5" 23" barrel for a great price.I called the man and spoke with him and I am going to look it over and buy it tommorow,Its never been fired, comes with a camo factory sling, rem super full choke and improved cyl choke. I will be selling the Rem 870 23" shurshot when it finally arrives here as I will not need it,It is stuck in the mail still.

I am pretty happy to have come across this gun,and the guy is only 20 minutes from where I spend my time in the woods.I have only been out 4 times so far as work has been busy but I should have more than enough time after this week to get out and hunt.I will be trying this gun out and getting it patterned this weekend or early next week and then in the woods.

This was an easy decision to be honest as I always wanted this gun. This makes up for taking on a little more work than I planned for hunting season.

Nice find. That there could easily be the "ultimate" turkey gun. What choke and shells are you planning on running?

I will probably shoot long beards in 4-5-6 and in 3.5" or kent tk7 in 3" and I will shoot the choke it comes with and I purchased a tightwad .660 for the 870 that I bought but the gun hasn't arrived so I will just use the choke for this gun and sell the pump when it arrives. I will probably test tss 3.5" for next season.I will most likely be using my custom sling I am having built on this gun too. We roosted a longbeard tonight,we killed his brother 3 days ago and I am hoping to get a shot at him in the am before the snow arrives,I have had to wear my winter hunting coat the last two mornings it  was -11 and -5....nasty weather coming in the next few days.

Though the morning hunt was a mess, heavy winds and heavy snowfall along with the birds deciding to go out a different route.I did go and pick up my newest addition and It is exactly like the gentleman said, new never shot mint shape.

I plan on shooting and patterning this later this afternoon and hunting with it in the am.It fits like a glove,I plan on shooting the beads but may use a truglo fiber optic as well.

I checked and this gun was manufactured in 2004.This man won it at a dinner or a raffle he said in and around that time.

I am going to buy a tss jellyhead choke to test after the season and get it ready for the fall, and next spring.

I had a few minutes this afternoon and I ended up shooting a few shells,I decided to shoot long beard 3.5" #6's with the Remington turkey extra full stock choke because I heard it did well.I am more than happy. It was windy.I believe my pattern hits to the right but I was free shooting,no bench, nothing to lean on.I was kneeling when I fired this shot.I always range find my yardage to shoot and pattern, this is 40 yards. The gun has the two bead system.I love the gun to be honest. One of my favorites, fits me perfect.I did shoot at other distances,I fired 4 shells and at each distance, there is no longbeard getting away.

I also don't plan on changing from longbeard shells, they are my all time favorite turkey load, they have taken over from my winchester supremes.

Which Gun

Shooting the Rem Extra Full .687 out of my 870SM with Win LB 3.5 6’s as well. It is a turkey killer. It will shoot 230’s in the 35-40yd range. Just right.

I am impressed with the stock turkey choke w/long beards, but I want to test the maximum jellyhead as well.I may pick it up the next few days to try out.I am going to test long beard #4's. I would like to shoot 4's if I can get them to pattern out of this gun like they do my win 1300 with the .675 undertaker.

What a mess of a weekend,I am 40 years young and I can't remember it ever being this nasty on May 8th and 9th.We are in the middle of a snow blizzard with 70 mph winds.I hunted until 9 am today and then came home as I had a few things to finish up and wanted to get it done so I can hunt the next few weeks.

I almost closed the deal on a tom I've been playing chess with, however tomorrow is another morning in the woods.I carried the new gun in the woods today and can't wait until I get a chance to pull the trigger.

After taking that gun on a hunt in the middle of this May blizzard, a fitting name for her would be ol' Maye.

I like it too.I am glad I decided to check the website out that I did,I was bored waiting for my 870 super mag to arrive as it is stuck in the mail backlog so I browsed, the man had just listed it. called him,he lives about 30 minutes from me and about 15-20 minutes from where I hunt and my camp and property is.It was an easy transaction as I went to his place,he is an older man in his late 60's early 70's and is starting to liquidate his guns,I may be buying a 28" barrel 1187 from him in the future for ducks/geese as he is not ready to sell it yet.

I am also going to keep the 870 when It arrives,I had thought about either selling it or keeping it new in box for 20 years, but I will just drag it around the woods for the next 20 years,I already have the tightwad choke so I am going to grab the jellyhead early this week I think to test,at least it will be for two guns instead of just one.

I am done buying turkey guns at least until next winter if ever,I started thinking about collecting them a few years back and slowly stared to build my collection. I have a few other items arriving this week,I purchased the shocker sling pack to test and my limbsaver sling should be here as well.I am done with vests and carrying a lot of stuff, the shocker sling/harness pack looks like it could be the ticket.I will give it a fair workout the next few weeks.

What state you turkey hunting in?

There is one on gun broker right now in the old tree bark Camo. Current bid....$1825.00

Love Remington shotguns but I could go buy a couple of Beretta Outlanders and pay for a turkey hunting trip for my son and I for that much.
