look up Joe Slaton on youtube or his call making company Mother lode turkey calls, he is a member around here and has won the gobbling category in more than one competition his videos and a few PM's helped get me started gobbling on a mouth call that has killed some birds for me when i needed it.

I couldn't find mr slaton gobbling on a wingbone. I can do it on a trumpet and it sounds great. but, not world champion great.

My opinion: a little too fast on the notes and a little too long on the whole gobble.  The first part of the gobble sounds better than the last part.  If you have not already tried gobbling on a tube call, try that and see if it works better for you.

I put a lot of time into trying to get the Haint to work and I could not slow the notes down enough.  I've heard people do it, so I know it is possible, but not for me.  Sounded too much like a feeding chuckle on a duck call.  So I switched to a tube call I got from Joe Slaton.  I'm still learning, but you asked for samples, so here's another beginner on a tube call.

I use a similar call, and most anyone that blows a duck call will likely have a far easier time with this call...  You simply do a feeding chuckle into the call, start with an open hand, and then cup your hand over the call for more back-pressure.

You can say:
Digg-a, digg-a, digg-a
Tick-a, tick-a, tick-a
Dugg-a, dugg-a, dugg-a
Kitty, kitty, kitty

Once you are able to get the correct sound, then you have to figure out the correct cadence...  Once you have the cadence, and the sound, they you play with cupping your hands for the correct amount of back-pressure.

Basically and strong two-syllable word, just utilize the correct rhythm and cadence of a gobble with the right amount of back pressure...  Break it down into steps.

I got a haint the first year they came out and out of the birds I tried it on pre season.  One got fired up.....one was gobbling good and shut up, and 3 that were together clammed up as well.  I retired it to the treasure chest and never took it in the woods during season. If I want to gobble I will do it with my mouth and/or box call.

Sounds good, Mike,...got more of a Merriam's sound in there,...must be the western accent.   

As a side-note, I have always found it interesting that most folks try to gobble like the typical "Eastern" gobbler.  In my experience, the gobble of a Merriams is much more difficult to reproduce than the static gobble of an Eastern.  Gobbling contests would be much more entertaining to me if the contestants were required to reproduce gobbles of the various subspecies, rather than just the "standard" Eastern wild turkey gobble.  That would really "separate the men from the boys" in those contests.

Thanks Jim.  You're right, that is what I'm trying for anyway.  It's what I am most used to hearing.   Love those Merriam's gobbles.   Lovett Williams is the only one I've encountered that talked in any length about the different sound of the gobbles from the sub-species.  I like your idea for an advanced gobble competition.
