Hunt more, hunt smarter.

I listen to area farmers who are having real or perceived damage problems from turkeys pulling up their grain in order to eat the sprouting seed. Often these folks will let you hunt turkeys when they might not let you hunt anything else. Typically, I find a couple of new places to hunt each spring such that now I have 7-8 different farms to hunt which is great since spring rains often eliminate some of these places due to flooding, etc. With Illinois offering three permits over five spring seasons, this gives me several options.
