Title: Special Request (Secrets)
Post by: guesswho on February 15, 2018, 12:29:57 PM
We have had a series of useless threads recently and I had a special request via pm today to share some of my secrets.  So I figured why not share something useful.  I know this will hurt local populations but some things need to be shared.   For those who don't know me, I'm fairly successful in the turkey woods and an inventor.  I killed one in 1968, 74, 83, 93, 94, 2007 and 2015.  The following are some equipment that has helped me be as successful as I have been over the years.

First is a decoy I designed, field tested and distributed.  It's the Badonkadeke.  It should only be used when you feel like carrying a long beard out of the woods.  It comes with interchangeble heads and tails.  So It can be used as a hen, gobbler or even a strutter.
My next invention was The String.  Turkeys can't resist coming in on it.  and when combined with my other invention The Keys To Success its a cant miss combo.  These are also commercially available "sometimes".  You can see both tools in the picture.
Another invention that really helped as I got older and my eyes started to fade, is my Gobbler Seeking Glasses.  These allow you to see turkeys appear from somewhere instead of nowhere.  Gives me the extra 30 minutes or so to get my gun up and ready.  In this picture you can see I'm all decked out and ready for a successful hunt.  Pictured are the Gobbler Seeking Glasses, The String connected to The Keys To Success along with my Mark Sharpe Wingbone and MKW Trumpet.  You combine all of these at the same time along with Badonkadeke and the only problem you will have is picking out which gobbler to shoot.  But the government makes me issue a warning anytime I share these secrets.  If your not the only person using these tools in your area, your turkey population will be decimated.
And as you can see from the N"WTF"'s turkey population map, these are extremely effective tools.  It took them several years to figure out what was happening around the Phenix City/Columbus Georgia area.  Populations plummeted when I started using these tools.  I have since started using them in moderation.
And please carry enough shells to kill all the turkeys in your area.  If you don't, this can happen to you as well.  I can take on one or two gobblers bare handed, but 80-100 can do some serious damage once they get you down.  I hope this helps you have a successful and safe spring season.  And please, no more pm requests wanting to be a pro-staffer.  It is full and the waiting list is longer than most popular call makers lists.

And I almost forgot this invention to replace the standard head-net.   It's called the fan-net.  I was fanning before fanning was cool.

And I forgot to mention something about Badonkadeke.  Hogs will attack and try to kill him.

My Dad always told people that's why I kill turkeys.  He tells everybody the boy smells like turkey poop.

So no scent needed, it comes natural.

This thread got me to thinking back on some of my turkey hunting highlights.  Made me think of the Karma call series.   And with the recent $175 Cody call thread I'm going to share a story of a call worth far more than that.  It will probably take me a day or two to find the pictures, but when I do I'll start another thread and share events.

When you are unequivocally superior with certain techniques it is false modesty not to educate others. Thanks for getting over yourself and sharing some of your secrets.

:TooFunny:  At the old folks home I'm known as the guy that likes to apply rear naked chokes while naked, so I pretty much come and go as I please.   The security there won't even make eye contact with me.

Do you incorporate tin foil into the hat, or does that interfere with the gobbler seeking glasses???

It is an effective strategy and doesn't effect the glasses.  I recommend using the foil to keep the gobbler from hearing what your thinking.

Thank you both. I am really liking it here, I am the only guy in my group of hunting friends that really turkey hunts so I don't have anybody to talk to about it ever really so it is nice to talk with some like minded individuals. Also love all the history of turkey hunting on this site.

like minded?  That's scary.  I've noticed that there's a couple really twisted people on here.

Try to talk one of you buddy's into going with you one day.  Trouble with that is they will probably like it and go back.   And then they will take a friend and next thing you know the whole county will be full of turkey hunters. :-X

Well when people ask me why my girlfriend and I are together I always tell them it is because she is just as sick in the head as I am so....

I have tried talking friend into it, I had one that did but back then I was much more able bodied and would help him get his stuff out to the hunting area (He has been through a LOT with cancer) but after my last car accident I sometimes need help myself. At least I don't have to walk with a cane anymore over most terrain, I had to do that from 2001 til late summer last year.

I have hunted with one I would not really call a friend, he is married to a friends daughter but he seriously lacked in ethics and though I can deal with swearing and do some myself he was an every other word type person and I just don't care for that. My landlords son does turkey hunt but he likes to go it alone or I would hunt with him.

My GF wants to go out with me one day this year, though it will be hunting with a camera when we go, she is not an anti-hunter or anything like that, she just does not like the thought of the critters getting hurt/killed. She will eat them just fine too.
