Turkey season is getting close. For some of us it is a little over a month away. I believe you Georgia boys start on March 15th or so and not sure about Dirt Road Ninja on his land. Most of us in SC have to wait until April 1. I usually do not hunt on Sundays, but I will be hunting on opening day. Saturday and Sunday here is SC was 70 degrees or so. I was having to fight back Shock gobbles and strutting. Cannot wait for it to get here. Hope that those that start hunting early can get us on the board quickly.
When does everyone start hunting?
Unless I get lucky and find someone in the low country (March 15th) it will be April 1st for me.
I get to hit the woods March 10th with my son. Our youth season opens on the 8th. Big boy season opens on the 15th, and I already have the vacation scheduled. I'll be in the woods the 15th - 19th to open the season. Plan on taking a few more days off the end of the first week or the end of the second week in April. Last year that's when our birds started to get really cranked up.
April 7th is our youth day in VA so I hope to have my son out that morning, our regular season opener is April 14th. In VA you can only hunt til noon most of the season, it switches to all day the last two weeks of our season. I had wanted to try to hunt out of state again, possibly NC or WV but with a baby boy due any day now those plans have been shelved until next spring.
March 24 here in GA
April the 9 in Illinois seem a long ways off, think I need to move south! :funnyturkey:
Bow season starts March 25 here. Leaving Sunday for a little bowhunting warm up headed to Oklahoma for some hog hunting. Should be fun.

If everything works out then Chris and I will be heading to Mississippi to hunt March 16 and 17. Would be great to get a bit of a head start. :)

It will make the following two weeks almost unbearable!
March 15th in Alabama. I live and hunt mostly in GA but got in on some Alabama land. I had to pull some strings to be off that morning. Opens on a Thursday over there. but...... I can always pull some strings to hunt opening morning regardless what state Its in! haha. I can't wait! My cousin has seen 4 big boys and got one of them on camera. Only bad thing is he says its covered with hens.
I'm under a month now. Almost time to pull out the turkey stuff and go thru it. Put all my calls in one place, there scattered all over between my house, office, garage, and truck. Should not take to long, I think I saw my vest a few weeks ago. It more then likely could use a hose down. Got to make one more trip to the pattern board to.
Got my 5 SC turkey tags in the mail on Saturday. April cannot get here fast enough. Went scouting Saturday morning. Got up late (6:45 am) and thought I missed the action. I was standing on a field edge to see if I seen any birds in the field. I started hearing some tree yelps. I heard a cackle as a few came to the ground. I circled around the woods and as I was aproaching where I believe they were a gobble rang out, it scared me. I made my way to where they were and saw the through the brush. A couple of birds knew something was not right and started to cluck nervously. I got that and some normal clucks recorded on my phone. The prize of the morning was a big tom that I recorded a gobble from. The fever has really set in now!
Under a month away now cant wait to start to fling arrows at them.
Is it turkey season yet?????????? :fud: :newmascot:

My feelings exactly!
17 days and counting down until I get to hit the wonderful spring time woods!
There is a post in the general section titled youth Osceola (I think). That will get ya fired up.
I get pretty excited just to go listening for gobbles.
Getting ready to go here in GA! Picked up a Legacy mouth call this past weekend and baby is all turkey. Been scouting and finding alot of sign, hoping to be able to get a bird on the board quick!
8 more days till I get to hit the woods for youth season. Going up this weekend to leave the jeep at the camp, pull some camera cards, listen for birds and set out a few more blinds for my son. The last time I was there was the 21st and I had a few pics of loggers on the property. I'm hoping they were just surveying and not planing on doing any cutting. We've had them poke around before and not cut, plus it's been so wet I doubt they can. I hunt on my in-laws ground he owns the front 400 and he leases the back 600 from a timber company.
I've really got to start getting my gear together. I've got all my calls located, but still need to pull out the light camo and make sure my son hasn't out grown his clothes from deer season. I've had to buy him new stuff every year, sometimes twice a year. At least if he did I won't need to buy the insulated stuff right now.
I am fired up as well. Cannot wait for the 16th to get here to head out to Ms. Bought me a new treklite shirt in Obsession off ebay for 29.99. Cannot beat that price. Want to pick up another pair of pants, but other than that, COME ON SPRING!
GOOD LUCK to everyone who going to the woods soon! Love being in this contest but it sure is hard knowing you guys are hunting and I still have a month to go. :bike2:

yea goodluck guys ,,, got 2 months here yet i try not to get to excitied early
Hopefully in about 2 weeks we can have some birds on the score board and then in 3 weeks a few more and then the beginning of April a few more. It is getting close and I cannot wait!
I'll go out on a limb and bet that by 3/18/12 we have at least 2 on the ground. If not there should be some empty hulls and a lot of cussing.
Going to do more scouting this weekend. I don't want to guess where they are. If the weather stays like this they should be fired up. It's almost 80 right now.
Im ready to get in the daggum woods!
1 mpnth and a day until VA's youth opener. Gotta get out this week and prowl around my honey hole so I can find one for my oldest son. We are suppose to get snow tomorrow but back in the 60's later this week. Crazy winter we are having.
Youth opens tomorrow for us, but we can't go till Saturday. The weather is looking bad for the weekend. Rain and wind. Unlike the deer, I know the turkeys will fly down and do their thing during the day. We've just gotta be there when they do it.
Good Luck to the ones that start this weekend! Gotta another couple weeks here. I can't wait!
Well, I was reading this and realized I SHOULD HAVE BEEN leaving 1 week from today for MS with Donald to go put a couple birds on the ground. Instead I am waiting here until the 1st of April......OH PLEASE LET THE TIME FLY!
I will live vicariously through Deacon and DavisD while the take off on their adventure! Good luck fellas.

Well we are not sure if things will work out for Mississippi. We still have our fingers crossed tight and waiting to see what happens. If not April 1st is not that far and old Deacon will hit the woods on the 24th of March in Ga. Then he will have 29 days off to hunt in April. I will be in the woods on April 1 and possibly April 2nd.
Just checked the Illinois dnr web site an I draw a third tag, a fourth season April26- May 2.

I hope so, you never know the way Illinois breaks up it's season into five separate weeks bad weather can really screw you up. The first week is all week days the other four have one week'end in them. You
guy's that can buy a tag and hunt any part of the season an any where in the state need to be thankful.
I think you will bust them birds up, JVA54. Glad you got another tag. I have an opportunity to fill 8 tags this year, 3 in MS and 5 is SC. Leaving this afternoon to start my journey to MS. Stopping in Bremen, Ga and the finish up tomorrow and hopefully be hunting by 2-3 pm tomorrow afternoon!
My goal is to fill at least 5 of the 8 tags, 1 in MS and 4 in SC.

You're getting close to me coming to Bremen. I'm about 15 minutes from breman. Good luck and hope you have a safe trip
Hey Davisd9 I wished I wasn't working this evening I'd buy yalls supper tonight. I live just up to road from Bremen in fact right before you get into Bama on I-20 you'll see the exit for the town I live in Tallapoosa, Ga. Good Luck on your trip and if your eating in Bremen that cracker barrell beside Mcdonalds is about the best place to eat in Bremen.
It's here. Loading up the jeep now to head out. I'm only hunting 5min from the camp and shooting light is about an hour away.
