I hear what your saying but I don't use this 20ga.on shots for 40 yard shots. My numbers drop off to much at 40 will it kill maybe but I have a 12ga.for that. I max this 20 ga.yardage to about 30 yards.

I just sighted in my Weatherby SA-459 20 Gauge a couple days ago shooting Federal TSS #9's and got significantly more pellets at 40 yards than what you are showing at 25 yards.  I realize I'm shooting 9's vs your 7's, but I would not hesitate at all to take a 40 yard shot at a turkey.  Not sure why your pellet count is so low.

I would  not even carry a 20g if I limited my shots to 30 yards. TSS shines in the sub gauges at longer ranges: 40 or 50. My 20g will easily kill at 50 and 60 although I do not shoot but around 40 or 45 max. At 20 or 30 yards stick with LB. It's a very good shell and I use it in my 12 gauge. As for pellet count I just don't see the fancination with it. Turkey does not need 200 plus pellets in it to make a kill. I prefer a round even pattern at 40 -50. To get there try different chokes you will eventually find the right combination. As for cost you can start out with regular trap loads then adjust to the more expensive shells. Cost seems to be a major factor to many about TSS. I rcommend you stay with LB or another cheaper shell. Save your self some stress just because your buddy has it or you have read it on this or another forum does not mean you have to have it.

Bottom line if you are doing your part and calling in a Turkey to 20 - 40 yards either TSS or LB will work just fine.

Currently I'm shooting the 3" long beard #6's. Could I achieve better results by switching to the federal tss #7's? I'm shooting a remington 870, 21" barrel with a .665 mad choke. Thanks for any advice.

I shoot 3" #6 longbeards as well but recently jumped on the sale at basspro and ordered a box of federal tss #7s (#9s not legal in Indiana). Here is a picture of a couple shots I took yesterday. 25 and 40 yards. Tristar g2 viper turkey 12 gauge with a Carlson longbeard choke.

Magdump said it correct! Have 2 Remington's, 870 and 11187 set up for turkey...My first turkey guns....TSS will out shoot longbeard everytime beyond 30 yards...BUT PREFER 9s!!

I made the switch to a 20ga and I wouldn't hesitate to shot one beyond 40 yds.

Shot my SX3 20 ga with ninja TSS 8.5 Shot.
Barrel length is 26 inch.
Sight-Burris FF3
Carlson 575 choke. 
Shots are 20yds, 30yds, 40yds and 50yd shots.

Note: I did change POA after 20 yd shot because it was a tad high.

It`s always amused me at the hairs that are split when it comes to " evaluating " different loads. How many pellets in a turkey`s head and neck does it take anyway? Big gaps in the pattern? That`s a different story.
