A number of recent discussions have prompted me to think about some of the many things that have changed "since I was a kid".  I thought it might be interesting to see what kinds of things folks here at OG recognize as having changed since their "growing up days".  Here are a couple:

When I was a kid, we could ride our bicycles anywhere within 1/2 mile from the house without our parents worrying about us.

When I was a kid, my parents could drop us off at the movie theatre unsupervised (grade school age) without worrying.

HARDCORE

When I was a kid, I could leave the house before sunrise, hunt or fish all day and as long as I made it back to the house by dinner time all was good.

Now a days, I worry if I haven't seen or heard from my kids in an hour. Things have definitely changed.

When I was a kid we could go out in the woods from the time we got up around 6:00 until our mother called us in at night without worry from anything.

Tail Feathers

When I was a kid I knew everybody on my block, my folks knew them and if I messed anywhere in the neighborhood the neighbors would call me on it on the spot without fear of my parents being mad.
Cause they usually knew about it before I got home!
Man what a great place I grew up in. :wav:

When I was a kid, I never worried about taxes.

When I was a kid - seeing a young guy with a gun just meant he was going hunting or plinking and didn't raise an alarm like it does so often today.

I'm not that old, but when I was a "kid" in the early/mid 90's we never played video games. We hunted, fished, played sports etc... Even if it was cold out we were outside. In the summers we camped out nearly every night if it wasn't raining. My back yard was the Daniel Boone National Forest.

BOFF

When I was in grade school, I got a hit with a paddle, and it was a learning experience, several times.  ;D

We said "yes sir" and "no sir".

We respected our elders.

Slept with the windows up, and seldom locked the doors.

We got in fist fights, and didn't worry about being cut up, shot, or sued.

When I was a kid, the Sears Roebuck catalog was still used in some areas for toilet tissue, now Sears has gone to the toilet selling pornography.

When I was a kid, the line at the IGA for breakfast was out the door in deer season at 4:30 AM. There may only have been 1 other guy there in turkey season.

When I was a kid, gas was 65 cent a galloon.
