1187 choke recommendations.
« on: March 01, 2018, 02:25:47 PM »
Let me know if this is not the place for this post.... newbie.

Looking for choke suggestion for a 28" 1187 super mag. I will be using 3" Federal Thugs in 5s or 6s since I have a stock pile. Also use Longbeards for field duty if needed.

Thank guys!

My 870 with a 28 inch barrel shoots the rem super full choke in .665 really well. I've also had good patterns in my 870 and 1187 with the jelly head choke.

Jellyhead has always worked well for me with Remington 11-87, Mossberg 535, and Browning pump. Indian Creek is another solid performer.

I haven't tried a ton of different chokes, but so far my 21" 11/87 shoots great with a .660 Longbeard choke.

I shoot the 1187 with Indian Creek and 3.5 Winchesters.  I'm good out to 50 yards.

I'm shooting a .665 Indian Creek out of my 870 using hevishot. If you can find an old Remington ventilator,  that thing is a beast,  too.

Sumtoy. I have the .660 in my 870, and it is deadly.

TruLock .670 and TSS 9's.  I tried a .660 and a .665. but had more flyers than with the .670. My pattern is a little more open, but even.

I shoot a IC .665 out of my 870.  I also shot a old star-dot choke i think it was like .668-.670?  Killed a pile of birds with it.  Come to think of it I don't think my IC shoots any better than it did.  I just felt like I paid for the IC so thats what I use.

My 12 gauge 11-87 loves the Banser (TruGlo) .670

This pattern was shot w/ fives. I went to sixes and had even better results, just don’t have a pic. Killed a lot of birds w the sixes
