Purring on a trumpet

Any advice on how to purr on a trumpet? I know there are better calls for it, but it's fun to learn new stuff.

I saw video of Slaton purring on one and it was very impressive but then didn't quite sound like a turkey purring to me, not something I'd actually use in the woods. I'd like to get good at gobbling just for fun, but all I need in the woods is yelps and clucks.

Putting your finger in the bell of the call will not get the desired result.  Good luck.

I have been building trumpets over 20 years and of all the people that have played my calls I have had less than 5 that could purr good on one so to say that its hard is an understatement.

That is the fartherest thing from my mind! Simply because there are so many other calls that will do it better. I've never heard anyone do a contented purr on one!

IMHO, Anyone who uses their finger in the bell end of the call hasn't mastered air control. That is one of the most important aspects of calling with a Trumpet. It takes time. Too many people think that a trumpet is akin to all other types of calls -pick one up and call in a turkey.

Trumpets and wingbones require the most skill. It's why so many people give up on learning to use one well.
