Life after turkeys... Girls, worms, and fish

Finally got the girls out for a bit of fishing...  Kierra (the oldest at 5) and Saidee (the youngest at 3) have both been bugging me to take them out.

Unfortunately most of my fishing spots have dried up (literally)...  Although there is water this year, I doubt there are fish in ponds that were bone dry last summer.

Saidee was extremely interested in catching fish today, and managed a few from my lap.  Kierra got one decent shot on the camera of Saidee's first bass:

Kierra caught a pig of a bluegill:

As you might be able to tell, Saidee likes to make funny faces for the camera...

Although taking two young girls fishing is enough to test anyone's frustration levels, fun was had by all...  My only regret is that I did not take more pictures.  At least I have a few for them to look back on when I am gone, and for me to look back on when they are teens and no longer want to (or should) sit on my lap...
Did I do that?

Great stuff right there !! Well done dad. Been taking my now almost 14 year old daughter fishing when she could barely walk. Been putting crawlers on her own hook since 4 and likes bass thumb. That's going to be our summer right there. Cute girls. Print them pics if you haven't already. Those memories are priceless.

That is a good day on the water...

I do not believe in taking young children fishing, I believe in taking them "catching."

Unfortunately, due to our drought, many of the small farm ponds I previously had access to either went dry, or nearly dry.  The pond in the picture got extremely low, and when the water level came back up the vegetation exploded...  It was a lot tougher to fish, to find fish, and very tough for my oldest (at 5 years old) to cast (which was disappointing to her)...  We probably caught about 18 fish for the afternoon, and the youngest helped bring in about 7 of them.

The picture does not do that bluegill justice...  We caught a couple of bass with one considerably larger than the one pictured, but that big bluegill was the only one to take out any drag.  I actually thought she had hooked into a good sized catfish, and she thought she had a marlin on the line from her reaction.

Did I do that?
