Great morning to be in the woods, clear as a bell, no wind, slight frost, turkeys gobbling. I heard 5-6 different birds, one was really sounding off but he had the ladies with him. I made a few calls and got answered with some coarse yelps back. After about 15mins and listening to the big boy move away I was just fixing to crawl out of the woods when I saw 2 heads pop up over the hill. Hens I thought, then I see the 4-5" beards attached to them. I have never killed a jake before, and I thought back to last season. No birds down, only went 5 times due to a torn ankle ligament, sorry jakes. I let them seperate and let the biggest one have it at 32yds. Mossberg 835 2.25oz H13 #6's, all that was holding his head on was some skin, absolutely crushed him.
I know where the big one is roosting and I plan on being there in the morning.
