3 in the gun (law) and 4 in the vest and normally a box stays in the truck. If all goes right I'll use 2 all year but never know if an emergency happens or if a buddy needs a shell

My 870 holds 3 in the tube mag and 1 in the chamber, so I go with 4. I figure one of these days I'm gonna miss and need an extra shot. All I've ever needed so far was one.
I used to carry extra shells early on in my career before I figured out that turkey hunting is a 1 shot, 1 kill game.

I still have issues with that from time to time.

Luckily for the turkeys!!!   You already put a hurtin' on them every year anyway!!
I've only missed once, and there was no chance for a follow up shot. I'm sure more misses are coming though.
