Good one there StinkPickle!  :TooFunny:

You'd have to hunt them like elk and play the wind. That would make an interesting dynamic to calling and maneuvering on birds.

I'm just glad they can't smell. I spend enough time trying to keep my deer gear scent free.

I would wear a bright yellow poncho, douse myself with Mazola and act like a corn pile.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Flyfish for trout more than I do now. If turkey's could smell you would never kill one. :o
Deer see you and think you are a stump. The Old Gobbler sees a stump and thinks it is YOU!

First thing that came to my mind.

Although staying down wind of a turkey is easier then getting downwind of a deer. Atleast you usually have a direction. But if they circle its over.

I guess i'd have to buy all the Scent-Lok gear and one of those Ozonics contraptions. Mr TV big buck hunter says I cant kill big deer without out so I'm guessing turkeys would be the same.

In all seriousness i'd do the same thing I do deer hunting..................play the wind. Then I would proceed to kill some turkeys and not kill some turkeys, same as deer.

My thoughts too..I mean it works for deer, so guess it should work for turkey.

Hard up for entertainment? Ok, I'll bite. I believe it was Fred Bear that said "if the wild turkey had the nose of a whitetail deer we would rarely legally kill one" feel free to correct my quote if there are others here even old enough to remember Fred in his glory days. It was the highlight of the school year when one of the teachers would roll in the projector and we were treated to one of Fred's latest adventures. (I'm talking early 70's).

A bird that could smell would probably be closest compared to coyotes. There smart and tough to hunt but when you pay attention to the details you can get it done.

This is probably the closest thing to how it would actually be. Lots more busted set ups and calling from down wind. it would probably mean that many states would allow rifles and/or roost shooting to accomidate the degree of difficulty and maintain harvest numbers.

If a turkey could smell then a woman could be quiet..one thing we all are glad doesn't happen and the other we wish it would.   :TooFunny:

a deer's best defense is its nose and a lot of deer get killed every year, so i think we'd figure it out
but if deer could see and were as paranoid as turkeys, we might have a problem there  ;D

Boy that would be a tough hunt. But to be honest, deer have messed me up multiple times in the spring because they could smell me when I was working birds. I still spray myself down in the spring .
