My internet access is very limited right now.  I'm having trouble with my DSL modem at home.  But I'll be hunting early this season on public land. :icon_thumright:

Which 3 did you get? We got drawn for Bienville, Tallahala and Caney Creek covering the first two weekends. I've been scouting Bienville for 3 weeks now. Found areas with a lot of sign and bumped one off of a foodplot last Saturday. Heard no gobbling.

Awesome! The tags not the internet access. When do you start maybe you will kill our first bird.

The Southern Contingency of the Roaring 20's will commence our assault on the feathered foe on March 12 @ 0542. Preliminary intelligence indicates the very real possibility of gunfire at, or soon after sunrise, but it is expected to be brief and one-sided. Full sniper tactics and superior firepower will prevail.

All secure in sector 7.

I was offline at home for a week.  I'm back online now.  I picked up a BPS 12 Gauge in the interim.

I struck out on my first WMA Draw Hunt.  I found a gobbling turkey and set up on him.  I yelped, he answered.  I yelped, he answered.  Then I heard someone else shoot him.  I waited a few minutes and called again, in case a second / silent gobbler might come in, but no such luck.  WMA hunting is always like this.

Public land is tough hunting. Hang in there.

I also struck out on my second WMA Draw Hunt.  I found a wing feather, but no turkeys seen or heard, two mornings in a row.  I took the 20 gauge out with me this morning.

I struck out on all 3 early WMA hunts.  :character0029:

So does that mean your season is over or can you still hunt ?

3" 870 Shell Shucker

No, my season is not over.  It just means that from here on out, the woods will be more crowded.  The early Draw Hunts limit the number of "resident only" hunters on any given WMA the first 2 weeks of the season.  Now it will be anybody, anywhere, anytime.

Saturday I went into an area that I knew had been hunted, but that I thought might still hold a gobbler.  About 30 minutes after sunrise, I owl hooted and got a strong shock gobble in response.  I moved about 50 yards closer, which I thought put me about 200 yards away, and set up for a game of cat and mouse.  Stake blind, the whole nine yards, etc.

I stayed for 2 hours and that gobbler never responded to a hen call, and as far as I know, never came in silently either.  This is only 2 weeks after opening day on public ground.

Brothers, I'm trying. :TrainWreck1:

Hey, Don't sweat it you can only do your best. Last year I got shut out in Michigan for the first time in a while. I tried my best and had a few ops that just didn't work out. Thats why its hunting its not always a sure thing and who would want it to be. Keep at her things can change for the better in a moment and hopefully they will for you.
