What are you looking for?
Red meat isn't bad for you, fuzzy green meat is bad for you.

Which part of southern Iowa?

TRKYHTR

Me and Preacher will be hunting in Memphis MO and was looking for something near there. I know Memphis is very close to the IA border, a few miles. We drew an IA tag and was set to hunt in a different area and now there is some concern about that hunt and the availability. Memphis is near south central to south eastern IA.

Worse case scenerio you can check for public hunting ground around Lake Rathbun which is near Centerville.

Definately! I hunt around Unionville, Moravia and Drakeville. We have permission on some spectacular ground but still hunt on some of the state pieces as they are very good! There is quite a bit of public in that area.

Memphis is a good place to hunt and you should be covered up in jakes this spring with the first good hatch we have had in recent years.  I would look at public land in Lee, Van Buren, Davis, and Appanoose counties in SE Iowa.  I will also be hunting NE MO and SE IA this year but mostly private property.  There aren't as many turkey hunters in Iowa as there are in Missouri, so knocking on doors is always a great option, but public land shouldn't be that crowded.  Good luck. The turkeys in the area have really kicked it in gear this week.  Both toms and hens were strutting like crazy today.

Joe here is something else you may want to consider that I didnt think about.  If you plan on going along with Preacher for an Iowa bird you better check into the law more here in Iowa because I'm pretty sure that not only do both parties have to have a Iowa hunting license and habitat stamp but you both also have to have a valid turkey tag for one of the 4 spring turkey seasons.

TRKYHTR

We both drew tags for this season. I didn't know that though.
