Based on the last few comments about baiting and the spread of poultry diseases and toxins in wild bird populations, the fact is that this issue was brought up many years ago. What I do not understand is, if there is a significant concern regarding this, why are we not hearing an uproar from wildlife biologists about it?
You would think there would be a movement about to have some sort of FDA inspection process for commercial feeds to ensure against contamination (maybe there is). The same with the poultry industry and the concern about the spread of poultry diseases through various contamination possibilities.
My guess is that in today's world of trying to feed the masses, the concerns about the impacts of disease spread and toxin contamination in wild bird and game populations is probably pretty far down the list in terms of priorities. I have a feeling when it comes to weighing the impacts of food production for our burgeoning human population against worrying about the impacts that has on wild turkeys, that wild turkeys (and a lot of other wildlife species) are going to be the losers in that equation.
