Did that work?

It worked and I personally think you sound good. That will kill a bird for sure. The more practice the better you'll be with the rasp, if that is the sound you are trying to accomplish. I didn't hit it until 2 years ago and have been getting better and better. You picked a fine trumpet to play too.

Thanks y'all. I got my first one in 2019 and didn't take it seriously until 2021. Since 2021 I've been practicing with a suction yelper every day, 2 or 3 times a day for a few minutes at a time. I'm not where I'd like to be yet but wanted to get the thoughts of you guys that have done it longer than me.

I just got that call in the mail today around 10:30 this morning and that video was around 1pm. It's a lot different than the David Shoemaker trumpets I've used the past year but I like it a lot.

Sounds good enough to kill a turkey to me. It honestly doesn't matter how good anyone thinks it sounds unless you're in a call competition. The Gobbler that hears it is your best judge. I started using a trumpet in 2011 and I thought I sounded really bad back then. I killed two that year using a trumpet and haven't worried what I sound like since.

The call I was using there is a Ricky Padgett short style in African Blackwood. I like it but the bell opening is a lot larger than what I'm used to. The Permar, the DES, the Mullins and the Battey trumpets I own/owned have had a smaller bell end/ exhaust hole and I typically lay a finger across and block about half. This one, to my ear, sounds like you are running it with no back pressure like that and I've had to stick my finger in the barrel to create it.
