Just keep buying trumpets until you "find" the perfect one(s)    Typically I practice to and from work or when I'm home alone.  Indoor acoustics may also make you think you sound worse than you really do, so practicing outside and recording your playing will give you the best sense of how you sound.  Of course the neighbors and their dogs get real curious as to what's going on...

Definitely record yourself. Up close, then at a distance. Practice daily, even several times a day, just not too long at one time. You're gonna get it. Good luck.

Thanks for the link I'm defiantley gonna give that podcast a listen. I did purchase my 1st trumpet from irving whitt about a month or so ago. Been playing it multiple times a day for 5-10 min each time. Certainly no Rev. Farmer on it but I have been able to find out I can call clear and with rasp also. I chalk that up to a well made trumpet an less what I'm doing. I can also pick up one of my wingbones now and run it much better also with rasp. I cannot wait to get in the woods with the trumpet an wingbone round my neck. Best of luck this spring boys.
