Season over for me. No travel plans and all my honey do projects as well as fishing are now on the top of the list.
Called one up for a friend opening day, he returned the favor the next day for me (just the position we were sitting in for each set up made it so the non-shooter should call).
I tried very hard to get my son in law on a bird. Probably should have sent him alone more, but he is still pretty new to the turkey game and I actually like him since he gave me a grandbaby. I had him in the game several times, but could never pull the trigger. I am quite sure it hurt me to not be calling alone, but it was worth it just to try. Once I killed one, I had the fever to get him one. No regret. Passed on a few jake opportunities for myself, but I can buy a butterball.
Learned a new area and how to hunt it, caught a poacher and enjoyed catching up with an old friend that does not turkey hunt. He actually stayed out at the truck and listened to my whole hunt - was in earshot of the truck the whole time. He listened to us calling and the bird answering. He came at a trot after the shot and was there pretty quick. Says he is gonna try it next year and was the most exciting hunt he had all year (he is a very successful deer hunter).
I will chalk it up as another fun year and now I am setting my sights on some reds and trout. Oh, and wifey projects. Keep at it to those still hunting and have fun. It will be over before you know it.
