Season over

Season over for me. No travel plans and all my honey do projects as well as fishing are now on the top of the list.
Called one up for a friend opening day, he returned the favor the next day for me (just the position we were sitting in for each set up made it so the non-shooter should call).
I tried very hard to get my son in law on a bird. Probably should have sent him alone more, but he is still pretty new to the turkey game and I actually like him since he gave me a grandbaby. I had him in the game several times, but could never pull the trigger. I am quite sure it hurt me to not be calling alone, but it was worth it just to try. Once I killed one, I had the fever to get him one. No regret. Passed on a few jake opportunities for myself, but I can buy a butterball.
Learned a new area and how to hunt it, caught a poacher and enjoyed catching up with an old friend that does not turkey hunt. He actually stayed out at the truck and listened to my whole hunt - was in earshot of the truck the whole time. He listened to us calling and the bird answering. He came at a trot after the shot and was there pretty quick. Says he is gonna try it next year and was the most exciting hunt he had all year (he is a very successful deer hunter).
I will chalk it up as another fun year and now I am setting my sights on some reds and trout. Oh, and wifey projects. Keep at it to those still hunting and have fun. It will be over before you know it.

On the other end of the spectrum for me, My season has just started. With the shift in season dates this year I was unable to pull off a trip to the deep south this year. Made it out for the 1st time last weekend. Even though the weather sucked with high winds there was plenty of action. Got to play with a couple hens and group of super Jakes gobbling their butts off. Pulled 2 under 35 yds. The second at about 15. You could here the funky in some of their gobbles but you never know. Gave em both a pass. Looking forward to that area next year. Next day in a new to me area I called up a dandy longbeard to 25yds. Never kiss and tell but had no work today and I'm not hunting soo.....
Heading to Mo Thurs night for a long weekend weather looks decent. After that I'll take pops out the following weekend than finish my season up in Wis.

You didn't get a gobbler but any time spent in the woods is relaxing and enjoyable. Plus it looks like you got your friend interested in going turkey hunting next year.
Good for you so I'd chalk this year down as a win.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, tired, beat, thoroughly used up and totally worn out from chasing turkeys and loudly proclaiming; "WOW -- What a Ride!"

I got a gobbler on day 2. Friend got one on day 1. Son in law struck out. He has a bad guide. :0
So many close calls for him. 2 different times it had to do with an unknown creek/slough. Water was real high where we hunted this year. I pray it is low next year.

Sounds like a good season to me. Anytime sitting in the woods is a win for me. Good luck chasing the reds and trout. I will hopefully be doing that soon as well.
