vortex battery cap?

got my second vortex venom and can't get battery in. I took that rubber washer out of the "cap" and it screws right in. Now my question what is the washer for? Sight seems to work fine without it, troubles down the road?

Mine was tight at first, but worked much better with Duracell than the battery it shipped with...

first works ok with duracell, can't get second one to work with the duracell.

Get in touch with Vortex customer service. They were GREAT when I dealt with them.
