New 870s

I have nothing but good things to say about the Remington of old, and my father's 870s are wonderful guns that handle like a dream.

I got an 870 Express for Christmas one year, and found the thing would fail to cycle. Oil, clean, rack the pump harder, nothing solved the issue of feed failures or partial extraction. I traded it on a BPS and haven't looked back since, but it Remington came out with an 870 Wingmaster that was equal to the quality of the old days (doubtful), I'd get one in a heartbeat and make it my dedicated turkey gun.

Just curious, what did Remington Customer Service have to say? That`s sounds like a candidate for warranty work if not an out and out gun replacement.

I'll be completely honest - I didn't send it back! Several of the folks I hunted with had bought Expresses with similar issues, so I didn't bother fussing with sending a gun back for warranty across international borders and just cut my losses.

Understood. It might have been interesting to see what they might have said with a phone call and a description of the problem and what what you had done to try to address it. Then again, they might well have just said " Send it in." While I`ve not needed any gun smith work on my Remingtons, I always found them to be very helpful over the phone or on their online chat. Right up to when they went out of business!

Thanks . All I've had are older than that, no problems.
Except maybe one i got used . Turned out that one was a walmart gun and had a rough barrel which patterned poorly and took a lot of polishing to smooth up some. Cycled and shot fine though. May have been from that timeframe? It is gone now. All others have barrels that shine like glass inside.
One thing i would look at if i were to purchase another.

If they can make a shotgun shoot poa-poi with the quality they used to they will be
flooded with orders,i have 8 remingtons and have never had a problem hopefully they will still make my favorite the BDL!!

Glad to see them rolling again and getting out of the liberal Northeast.  We can't afford to lose any ammo or firearms manufactures.  It is my hope that they get back to the Remmy of old.

Where they going?

No where, still in Ilion.  The only thing that makes this the "liberal Northeast is NYC and NYC alone.  The vast majority of NY, including the Mohawk Valley is red/conservative.

Back in 1828, Remington setup shop in Ilion, NY.  With the advent of the New York Safe Act in 2013 which restricted gun ownership, Remmy moved their production lines to Huntsville, Alabama.  They manufacture their ammo in Lonoke, Arkansas from Bridgeport, Conn and their Corporate Office is in Madison, NC.  They have been through bankruptcy several times and have been bought and sold by multiple companies.  It is my hope they find States that appreciate them, manufacture QUALITY guns and ammo and WE, as a , find ways to turn the tide on Human Mental Stupidity. 

This is the same reason the NRA is declaring bankruptcy and moving out of New York to Texas.

Only partially true.  The majority of the Remington lines (870s, 1100s, Versa Max, V3, 700, etc) remained in Ilion, as they should.  NY did not cause Remington to file bankruptcy.  Ever since DuPont sold Remington, it has been owned by companies that didn't reinvest back into the plant and that is only one of a few reasons.  The un- SAFE act also did not cause Remington to move some of the lines to Huntsville. 

The vast majority of NY is NOT liberal, as you think.  Unfortunately, NYC and its libs have too much control.  NY above NYC and that region are as rural/hunting, fishing, etc as it gets.  Remington was founded in Ilion and that's where it should remain.

Ilion perhaps is where Remington SHOULD remain, the question is, CAN IT and be successful? Those NYC libs and the state government may make it impossible.

I know that there are some Rem Haters and maybe I have been lucky but I have owned several through various decades and I have had nothing but good things to say about them with the exception of the Versamax which in my opinion was a piece of junk.  The day it left my house was the happiest day of my life.

I certainly am one of those guys. A Remington Lightweight 20 gauge was my first shotgun, I lucked out my first day in the woods and got a Ruffed Grouse. This is a fond memory, what makes it special is several boxes of shells later, I only harvested a few grouse in my life. Surely humbled me.....I am sure glad turkeys don't operate like those bullets.....

Yep the memories. Remington shotguns have taken geese, ducks, pheasant, chukar, quail, dove, pigeon, rabbit and squirrel in my hands. And of course the wild turkey. Always will be Remington shotguns and rifles in my safe.

When I was growing up in rural Alabama in the late 50`s through the 60`s, when in the field either you were carrying a Remington, the guy next to you was, or you both were. They are a part of Americana, as far as I`m concerned, and a primary reason that I find their situation so sad.
