This was my dads first "turkey gun" in the late 70's. We have talked about doing various things with it over the years, he was even going to put a lamp shade and bulb in it one time to put in one of our camps. I was at his house last night and decided I would like to restore it since he actually hunted with it for quite a few years until he had money to get something better. I have shot it several times over years so I know it functions although I can tell it may need a couple new parts.About 10 years ago I took it to a buddies house who was having a clay shoot and brought it out just for a laugh. Ended up shooting it quite a few times

Not sure on the year of it until I get the old camo tape off of it but it is a marlin goose gun. A "mentor" of my dads talked him into getting it because one it was cheap and also because he used a long barreled shotgun himself. I will probably try to re blue and refinish stock as well as replace anything that needs replaced to make it look as close to original as possible. If anyone has any stories about these guns or has ever used one as turkey gun I would love to hear them

good gun.   Not much to go wrong with them.   We had around 20 when we did all the Outlaw Turkey Shoot builds.
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

Finished product, looking for the right sling for it now. It took me alot longer than expected but there was a pretty piece of wood hiding under all that tape.

Marlin Model 55 "goose gun" in 12ga

finally got around to patterning my dads old gun I restored, 30 yards with longbeard XR #6. Shoots a little low but awesome pattern I think for just a full choked barrel

Turkeybutt

The Marlin Model 55 Goose Gun. Like your father I had one of those back in the day when I started turkey hunting because it was all I could afford at the time.
Long barrel and that is one of the things I disliked about it. I remember walking in the woods with that thing over my shoulder and that long barrel hitting every low hanging limb alerting everything in the woods I was coming.
When I could afford something better I gave that gun away to somebody I worked with.
I was in a gun store recently and something caught my eye. It was a Marlin Model 55 and I hadn't seen one in years! I asked the employee to hand it to me and he asked if I was interested in buying it. My response was, "Hell no, you might as well use that thing for a tomato steak" and I told him my story about that gun. Seeing it brought back a lot of memories of places and people I hunted with. Oh on an interesting note the price tag on the gun at the gun store was $1,100.00! I don't see anyone buying it at that price.
I missed a lot of turkeys with that thing!
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, tired, beat, thoroughly used up and totally worn out from chasing turkeys and loudly proclaiming; "WOW -- What a Ride!"
