I just went through this process this year. I ended up going with the Mossberg 500 turkey Optic Ready. It comes with a Holosun 407k installed. It sits low enough on the gun that my 10 and 8 year olds can get a good cheek weld on it.
Also, the 500 is still USA made, and that was something that I wanted.

I did cut the stock down so it fits them better. I kept the part I cut off and can epoxy it back in place if  the need arises.
I prefer the Burris to the Holosun, but I use Holosun on some other guns and am completely confident in it.
My kiddos love shooting this gun.

The Steven's 410 have a ccp stamp on the from what I understand. Chinese Communist Party. Is that who we wanna give money to?

For the record, the stamp is PRC. People's Republic of China.

Thanks for clearing that up. I don't have one as you can see.
Either way the point is it's made by our country's enemy. Why anyone gives money they don't have to toward them is insane. I know some things we have little choice. Here there are options. The gun is garbage from what I've seen anyhow. Every time, the only guy I know has one shoots, and he uses it about never, the extractor falls out and he's gotta pick it off floor once he opens gun.
Gun is awful. Country is worse.

Gun goes Bang! and turkeys die. I've been pretty satisfied with it for the $145 I paid for it.
I paid more for the Burris that sits on top than the gun itself.

My kid started with the Rossi tuffy turkey .410 at 6 years old and now uses a Mossberg SA28. He'll probably stick with the 28 for decades. Recoil is minimal, it's short, and fits him at 10 years old. The SA-28 with the right choke patterns similar to my 12ga.

Kypossum

Mossberg youth model. When they get bigger you can get a full size stock or find one with the spacers for the stock to change the length.

Poconodoghunter

Pump. Then a mossburg compact 20. Best of luck

I would say a mossberg 500 batam or youth 870 in 20 gauge. They can practice with light 2 3/4" shells and then use a 2 3/4 tss shell when they go live on a hunt. I have never started a youth out with a semi for safety reasons, but thats just me.

I know a lot are going .410, I'll say look at the Mossberg Sa-28 youth bantam --- The gun has a short lop, good ergonomics for sighting down the bore, and more shot in the shell, a little more recoil, but also more thump, too.  This gun can also be great with wing shooting, trap, skeet, squirrels, etc.  It will help him learn these other sports.  The .410 can do all these things too, but the 28 can do it better.  At 10, her or a she should be should be plenty big enough to handle this round.
