Am I the only one that sees every company in the outdoor industry doing limited edition things? Does "limited edition" really sell that good? Seems every call company out there is doing a "limited" run of the same call they sell hundreds of except now they are just putting a number on them.

Scarcity sells, businesses love to capitalize on FOMO

Pretty much just a marketing scheme to sell more calls and up the price on that run.

Keep in mind.... there won't be more than 1% of the mass-produced calls made today that will have any collector's value 25 years from now.

If you wanna pay more money for a "limited edition"....contact a custom maker.   The call you get from HIM will be a TRUE, one-off original.  And it will stand a much better chance of appreciating in value, long-term.

I feel limited edition calls have a place I do think it has a lot to do with, what a call maker / company is making in the limited edition calls.

Take a pot call for instant it could be a wood combo that the maker has never done before and could include more than one striker.

The history and stories behind calls could also add to the value. A call is worth what a person is willing to pay in my opinion regardless if it's limited or not.

A lot of call builders have also built prototype one off-calls that have a very high value. Which I know really has nothing to do with limited edition calls.

Also remember limited edition shotguns will bring a premium price .. Like the ones in Greenleaf ...lol

I have a limited edition NWTF shotgun in a camo pattern and I feel it's priceless ... So again it's all up to what a person is willing to pay ... IMO

One of my favorite "Limited Edition" marketing ploys was Mossy Oak's fox vest. They release it, see the insane demand, then decide to release more "non-numbered" versions.  ::)

I agree, but the number ones will always be more valuable in my opinion.

I stood in line and got a numbered vest. Had a good time too. When they announced what they were doing I was one who viewed the fox vest the same as the Dixon. Now I'll never get rid of the fox vest but it just doesn't have the same allure to me now.

It also seems that once everyone seen what happened with the "limited un-numbered" edition of the vest, that's when I started seeing everybody and their brother sell a "limited edition" something.

I stood in line also and the memories and friends I got to meet were priceless, and boy it got cold during the night and Mossy Oak put out heaters etc.  SO was it all worth it YES it was ...  But I see your point also..

I was also fortunate to get all the calls and Apex Box / shells that were all part of the vest...

Oh, no doubt about that.

But releasing more said a lot about the company. $$$$

And I have to thank you Greg for standing with your wife in that line and picked up a vest for me. You are a treasured friend, I love that vest and thank you for that fine gesture! Amen brother.

There is a "call builder" now that seems to release a new limited edition of calls every time they sell the last of the last limited edition. Each limited edition is the best ever made and can even get training wheels with the new ones.
