Am I the only one that thinks this is stupid and a waste of funds? Nothing like killing off the people you want to help you raise money for turkey.

Smoking cigars and killing turkeys is cool, because the Pinhoti boys said it was.

I am with you on the killing turkeys part anyway. I do not think I am in the minority, but you never know.

This organization is hurting for funds Really Bad right now. A few months ago, they had to let some of their employees go. Last month, they were looking for 3 million to stay afloat. They have gotten, "To Big for Their Britches" and this is the result. This is just the Beginning! Soliciting Funds by Any Means Possible.

And this is basically what I am getting at, I think money can be raised in a better way and a healthier way to boot.

A lot of Jakes dads smoke and dip , so i don't think a bunch of Jakes are going to see this add. Why not give the NWTF break .. regardless we don't need to lose the NWTF.. If you would ever attend NWTF Convention you would see they do a lot of good for the youth programs. They have one huge area just for the Jakes to see all kinds of wildlife and play outdoor games. It easy to sit behind a key board and complain. Sure the NWTF has it's fault's but they do a lot of good also. Just my opinion.

I have attended an NWTF Convention Greg and agree they do a lot of good for kids, that is why I bought my youngest nephew a membership to the Jakes program.
I disagree they would not see the add because parents smoke or dip, I think that would make them far more likely to because the parents would show an interest, I just don't feel it needs to be tied to the NWTF is all.

It is a derogatory comment, it has put people in the ground, tobacco hasn't, the chemicals we add to tobacco has. Smoking cigars is relatively safe as people do not typically inhale when smoking cigars.

All cigars are dangerous to your health. Regular cigar smokers are 4 to 10 times more likely to die from cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx, and esophagus than non-smokers. For those who inhale, cigar smoking appears to be linked to death from cancer of the pancreas and bladder, too.Nov 18, 2019
Is Any Type of Smoking Safe? - American Cancer Society
https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer-causes/tobacco-and-cancer/is-any-type-of-smoking-safe.html
Edit: Organic tobacco is not safe either.
"Organic," "natural" or "additive-free" product labels may imply a healthier or safer choice, but that couldn't be further from the truth when it comes to tobacco products.
A cigarette with organic tobacco or tobacco with no additives does not make it healthier or safer than other cigarettes. All cigarettes — including those marketed as "natural," "organic" or "additive-free" — have harmful substances such as heavy metals, tar and carbon monoxide. This means that inhaling burnt tobacco of any kind is harmful.

I stand by my statement , most kids will never know about the the cigar club.. Just because one family member may smoke doesn't mean other family member will take up the habit. It's just like drinking alcohol, nothing wrong with little wine or mix drink, kids see parents do this at home and restaurants. Now getting drunk is different story. It's all about choice, you need to make that decision.

Actually statistics show children of smokers are much more likely to become smokers themselves. Same with drinking. Not in all cases, but it is higher in both when parents do.
Regardless of that I just do not think it is the best way to get involved with an outside entity like that to raise money, often there is agreements as to quantity required to be sold and so on and penalties when these quotas are not met which could put the NWTF or any organization further back. May not work out that way, but could. I will not discuss it anymore tonight anyway, took my medicine and I am getting tired. You have a good night Greg.
It's all just matter of opinions , we all have them... it all about growing up and making decisions.
From the research I've seen they say smoking one or two cigars barely increases your chance of cancer. I'll have to find the link to the research article. Cigarettes are full of nasty stuff. I've never smoked a cigarette and have only smoked a few cigars. I know some of y'all like to hate on Pinhoti but the point of the cigar thing is not to smoke a cigar. It's to hang out with the turkey and enjoy the moment, reflect on the experience. However you want to spend that time is your choice. If I was a big cigar smoker I probably still wouldn't join the club.

Here is where I differ than most, I am an ex smoker and I have never judged nor given an opinion to anyone that still smokes. And that include cigarettes, cigars or weed.
#1. It is none of my business
#2. It is not my money nor my concern what an adult does
As far as NWTF selling cigars, It doesn't bother me at all, once again, who am I to judge another man or worry about how he spends HIS money

Exactly my thoughts. None of my business what some one else does. Just as long as it doesn't concern me or mine. Lots of businesses use tobacco and alcohol products to sell their own products. Doesn't bother me at all. Bubba

It is a smart idea. Easy way to raise some money that actually provides benefit to the consumer. The consumer gets a 10% discount, the NWTF gets a 10% donation, and Cigarclub gets increased traffic and a tax deduction. Those who enjoy cigars can capitalize on the discount, those who don't can ignore the ad. I cannot find any problem with it.
Gentlemen this isn't about cancer or the effects of tobacco on our bodies. This discussion can be discussed another day. As Delmar said, this is about MONEY period! NWTF has done some amazing things during their life but as with so many organizations they have lost sight of the objective they started with. THE TURKEY!!!! They set out years ago to bring back the Wild Turkey to areas that had lost it and they were VERY successful. Today, their Management has lost sight of that GOAL and has setup a BIG BUSINESS where MONEY and certain PEOPLE'S JOB come before THE TURKEY! Now that Covid has put a BIG Damper on their MONEY flow and jobs, they are using every avenue available to try and get that flow back. Management jobs are at the FOREFRONT right now and THE TURKEY will be at the back of the bus or left at a station somewhere to be forgotten. This promo (with many more to come) is only the beginning to try and save UPPER level jobs. I hope they realize what is happening and realign their organization targeting the GOAL they started with many years ago, THE TURKEY.

That is called blind loyalty, I will never do that. It is alright to support something and not agree with everything they do, it is called independent thought.

Eating a food only effects the person eating it and that is their choice, tobacco causes problems to those that do not choose to use it as well, there is not real comparison.
I think the chemicals, hormones and steroids are causing much of the obesity myself. Years ago we did not have that crap in our foods and we did not have the problems.

I know I used to be poor as a Indian dog .now I am big as a killing hog but a lil smoke and a drink can't be as bad as those chemicals in food your talking about.lol
I cant decide which would be more offensive to my palate....smoking a cigar or sending money to NWTF!
Now before y'alls get bent out..I hereby affirm I am not currently responsible for my actions after having a bout with kidney stones , lithotripsy and the associated pain meds.
On the other hand....perhaps the choice between kidney stones and sending money to NWTF would be a more apt comparison.

Obviously you have never seen an overweight woman so in love with her whopper that she hit someone in a parking lot. I have. Its ridiculous though. There are enough rules,if someone wants to smoke then let them smoke. Plenty of places they can do that without affecting others.. If someone wants to be a LA then let them be an LA. I just don't want to pay for either ones health insurance which all to often I am thanks to being someone that works and pays taxes.

Not sure what you mean by "LA"? I do agree we really do not need a bunch more rules, never intended to imply that, I simply do no think it is a good way to raise funds and think it could be done in better ways, and has been in the past.
As far as the cancer comments go I recently lost somebody I cared for deeply to cancer, though not smoking related so I guess I was venting a little and perhaps in the wrong way though I do not feel selling tobacco is ever a good idea. I do support the individuals right to choose it so long as I do not have to smell it or have my health effected by it.

Bill Clinton , like his cigars ... :TooFunny: LA .. is Lard Butt but it has L A - S
I had a feeling on the second word but had thought maybe "Lazy" for the first. Thanks for the clarification.
YOUR welcome , sometimes you just need little help.. LOL...

Obesity is a bigger health issue in this country than smoking. So I suppose the NWTF should stop those fundraising banquets as well?
Eating a food only effects the person eating it and that is their choice, tobacco causes problems to those that do not choose to use it as well, there is not real comparison.
I think the chemicals, hormones and steroids are causing much of the obesity myself. Years ago we did not have that crap in our foods and we did not have the problems.

We all do at times.
YES, I AGREE ... :OGturkeyhead:
Thanks for the explanation Greg. A lot of things aren't healthy in the long run for us but its not easy to sell water and meat as a fundraiser. I get you point Sir Die and respect your opinion. Macdonald has a lot of blood on their hands though if we were actually crazy enough to believe they are responsible for other peoples bad decisions.

When I am off my diet and go for fast food it goes like this, to Burger King for a Double Whopper with cheese, to Wendy's for a large Frosty and to Arby's for a large order of Spiced Curly Fries. I have recently discovered the Baconator was Wendy's though, not half bad at all.

#1 and #2 is a pretty accurate concept.
I hope they sell the sh*t out of those cigars to turkey hunters! That just means there will be a lot fewer of them that will be able to get to some of the places I go to kill a gobbler! Cigar-smoke lungs and 9,000 to 10,000 ft. elevation turkeys don't go together too well! Light 'em up, boys! ;D :toothy9:

Why do you think those battery powered bikes are getting so popular? It isn't fair that two ton Tony can't waddle back and hunt the same area as you so now he can eat 2 cheese pizzas, smoke a pack of cigarettes and still beat you back to your favorite spot. Life is getting good for the lazy.
