Title: Facemask
Post by: chrmayo on February 12, 2011, 08:33:39 PM
Looking for a new facemask. I had one of the primos stretch ones. It has been misplaced some how. Does anyone reccommend any good ones?

Here's the one that I'll be using this year.  The cinch on the back is awesome.  I hate messing with stretched out masks that keep sliding down...

I just use a HS Strut mesh 3/4 mask, but I sew on pieces of camo material to give it the leafy look to match my hat and suit.

Quaker Boy has a new 3/4 mask out that is an updated version of the famous mesh Bandito. It's called the Bandito Elite, and is much softer and more comfortable than before. It's also not as transparent. I can't wait to hit the woods with mine!

I use the ones that only go up over the nose. It gets dang hot in FL during spring gobbler season and the ability to pull the mask down to cool off but have the option to quickly redeploy is a plus. I used to use the full headnets but like the others much better.

Same here. I wear glasses, and any jersey facemask I've tried always fogs up the glasses up here in the north country on those cool spring mornings.

I like the 3/4 mesh mask also. I don't even know what brand the one I use is.

I put it around my neck in the morning and when I set up, I pull it up in place.

Mornings are usually cool but the March-May hunts in Georgia can get warm.

Face paint rocks! No loss of peripheral vision or degradation of hearing.

As for removal, cotton balls & mineral oil work well as does Gojo hand cleaner.

I use military issue stick or Hunter's Specialties' tubes & at times, both. I bought some CarboMask, but I don't get the coverage or the pattern control I like.

Be safe,

Nathan

I purchased a hat with the face mask sewn in it. Bought it at the Convention 2 yrs ago and love it. When you're not using the mask , just tuck it under your hat, works great for me.

I got an Under Armour Evolution Turkey mask for Christmas and it is awesome!!!!   I had used the mesh, H.S. Strut in the past, but was never really happy with it.   My MIL modified the UA so I could wear it higher to get more coverage around and over my ears.  It is much thinner and lighter than what it looks like in the catalogs!!  Pricey, but I think it is going to be a great mask.

Half mask for me.  I can't stand the full head covers or the little circle part around the eyes on the 3/4 mask.

Yeh but my throat would get too dry from using a mouth call and dip at same time!

3/4 for me

Me too. I don't like a full because you cant pull it down around your neck like you can a 3/4 or a 1/2. And I don't like a 1/2 because I get more facial contact than I'd like when using a mouthcall. It's all about personal preference. I haven't really tried face paint in a while but I think it would get annoying washing that crap off everyday, sometimes twice a day. Seems like it'd cause your face to breakout. Having said that, I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again...

QB Bandito Elite, along with an original Bandito in the vest in case I lose the Elite or if whoever I'm hunting with doesn't have one.  Nothing worse than a shiny face to ruin a hunt!

I use a primos half mask. With the georgia heat its nice to have a mask thats not on your face the whole time. Also theres no loss of peripheral vision or hearing. Just pull it up over your nose and pull your hat down low, and its all the face cover you need

Same here good for running and gunning as well. Mine has a full price of wire to form around my nose too.

If you're wanting total comfort and unmatched concealment in a head cover you can't beat the Underbrush Visor Pro head cover by Outdoor Hunting Supply.  Totally mesh with camo 'tags' on it.  Fits great over a cap, keeps you cool and is light as a feather.  If you're a run and gunner you might like one that is small and quicker to adjust on and off, but if you're mostly a sitter like me I don't think you can beat it.    :camohat:

I use a HS Strut full face mask with the opening around the eyes.
I also use camo paint for when I take the mask off to eat/drink coffee etc.
Works well for me.
