Would like some opinions on the "best" slate pots and makers out there.
In my opinion, I make a really good slate call. Check out this thread with sound file.

Lon Trice, Anything thing he makes. Lonnie Sneed hot hen, Darrin Dawkins walnut slate. Any one of them three. Especially Lon Trice.
I'm not a huge fan of slate calls but my Blackstone slate in walnut is one of the best slates i've played.
Halloran laminate is great and Jimmy Schaffer red hen is another good one
My favorite slate that I ran last spring was a Kimmy Hanks.
I appreciate it guys..i normally run crystal and aluminum. Big halloran fan. I will get a couple of the calls you guys lusted. The addicition continues!
Roger Parks - curly walnut slate. Super good sounding!! ;D At the least call Roger and have him play one over the phone. You won't be sorry!!
Halloran wenge/walnut
I agree on the names listed so far. I would like to add Bill Lyman, Daybreak, and Tim Oldham. All three make awesome slate calls.
Mark Cornelius. My two favorites of his are a cherry pot with glass soundboard and walnut with aluminum soundboard.
Two of my other all-time favorites are the Cody Spec 1 and Parks Gobbler slate.
Strawser,Trice,Schaffer a lot of other good ones out there.

I agree
Steve Morganstern makes a great call also. He knows real turkey sound and does a great job on his calls
Del crow (zebrawood) and mike battey make some killer slate calls. Mike battey is overlooked. Hunter22 turned me on to that one!!
Paul Platz gets my vote. I also have one from Olin Humphries that is hard to beat.
IMHO.
Mike Yingling on here, makes some pot calls that will run with the best of them.
Reasonable price also.
:newmascot:
Lonnie Sneed or Darrin Dawkins

Absolutely. I've got several of Mike's calls and everyone of them are full of turkey. His slate is the best I've ever ran, period. My Sneed hot hen runs a very, very close second when talking slate but I still give the edge to Mike.

No phone number. Maybe drop him a letter?
Facebook Mike Battey. I contacted him and bought a call. Recieved it the same week. Don't think he is making trumpets anymore

My two favorites right now are the hot hen by sneed and the red hen by schaffer. I need to order one of mikes really like his copper.
I want to also add Lonnie Mabry to this list. His regular walnut slate is always in my vest.
I just got a walnut slate from Lonnie this weekend it's definitely gonna be in the vest this coming spring

Called in my first good gobbler with that call. It's a good one! As far as custom calls there are many good ones but my first custom call was a Lon Trice osage orange slate. Still probably one of the best sounding slates I've had.
My favorites are anything made by Lonnie Mabry out of Canton, GA. The man knows his stuff when making pot calls.
