Question:
Which statement holds truer more often.
Option 1: Patience Kills Turkeys

Option 2: Experience Kills Turkeys

Option 3: Luck Kills ATurkeys

I know the answer depends a lot on the hunter. But I'm talking all the turkeys that are killed in a year. Out of the three choices what gets them killed more often?
I've never bought into the statement patience kills turkeys. I hear it all the time and I see it on forums all the time. In my opinion patience saves just as many turkeys as it gets killed. I'm also not a big believer in luck killing them. I know a lot of them are luck, but I still think the more experience you have the luckier you will be.
What do you think?
being wood wise, its what make me successful. i figure out where they want to go, then set up in front of them. i would just as soon take a sharp stick in the eye than sit on a field trying to ambush a gobbler.
I'm glad that I'm LUCKY enough that I have enough EXPERIENCE To have PATIENCE to kill turkeys ! :newmascot:
I chose patience because I have enough experience to know that woodsmanship is a big part of a successful hunt. I think patience is a part of woodsmanship.
Although, I have been straight up lucky on a few hunts that probably should have been goose eggs!
Eperience kills more turkeys hands down year after year. Typically experienced hunters have better places to hunt or at least know what areas to look for to hunt when in new areas. Also experience minimizes mistakes and allows for more luck to happen.
X 2 Thanks Ricky you took the words right out of my mouth..

Shotgun nailed it right on the head. Hunters often make thier own luck. For the experienced ones, it seems to be good luck more often than not.
Man I have crushed my fair share in 31 years. I would rather be lucky that good any day. And most of the time being in the right spot ( set up) at the right time has hepled.

The old saying, "luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity," fits nicely here in the context of Guesswho's question.
We all get a "gimme" turkey every now and then, but to consistently be in a position to pull the trigger takes repeated successful application of your own experiences. Jim Spencer wrote once "sit down wrong and you're beat." Sitting down right can be a function of luck sometimes, but I think its way more often a function of knowing the right set up from a wrong set up.
Patience first for me then experience gained from experience and one of Ronnie's pink turkey decoys that he threw out!
:TooFunny:
I thought we were on to something with that pink deke and my tailfan camo face mask.
The arrogant veteran wanna be in me could answer this so eloquently, but I'm trying to tone it down.

Don't hold back. If I don't like what you type I won't read it.
I think those hunters that consistently kill turkeys have enough experience to know when to be patient and when it's time to move.

You always ask the best questions.
IMO Experience=Confidence=Dead Turkeys
Experience means little. It is only useful to those who learn from it and put that knowledge to use. That learning curve is different for each hunter. It's more about hunter savvy. I know plenty of guys who fill most of their tags for twenty plus years but make the same mistakes day after day and season after season. By most standards they would be experienced veterans but they do not adapt and learn and react but rather depend on luck and patience. It will lead to kills but I like to take the game to the gobbler.

I agree. You can be experienced at getting whooped by turkeys year in and year out. Your still experienced, but it sure as heck ain't going to be the strong part of your game.

You and your, "think about it" questions.
Can I change my answer? :TooFunny:
I lacked patience in thinking about it fully, and shot the answer out to soon.
Guess my luck ran out on me.

How could this fail? And throw in a PinkyDink deke, what could possibly go wrong?

And while I'm waiting I could sit in one of these. I figure I could pick this up from the inside and graze right on over and shoot him. That way I won't even need a fricking call.

Instead of getting me an owl hooter I might get me a cow moo'er.
Dang, now ya'll made me forget what my question was.
Ronnie, way, way too much time on your hands :you_rock:
guesswho , That's freaking hilarious !!! :TooFunny: :TooFunny: :TooFunny: :TooFunny:
I think being persistent/experience kills most of my birds . I run and gun alot looking for my birds and I never give up !

This thread just went from good to awesome! That's a blind I would definitely hunt out of, lol..
experience...patience kills some ... luck kills even less
I gotta know more about the blind.
For some reason it just MOOOOOS me.

i think in all reality it is a mix of all three :turkey2: :funnyturkey:
Experience...... hands down. You can have all the luck in the world and half the patience, but if you don't know what move to make/not make and when to/when not to make it, you won't be as successful.......I think???
Hoping that patience makes up for my lack of experience this spring :gobble:
