Alrighty boys, game on. Try and keep up.
Cannonball, try putting your recliner in the woods and then put the blind around it. Those guys in the other teams won't be as wise and knowledgeable as the GOATS. Elmo would be telling you to make the door bigger.

I ain't doing no hibernating either. I up before dawn and running Maple sap to the sugar shack and firing up the evaporator by 8:00 most days. These mornings are almost as busy as turkey season for us syrup makers.
On that note, I was a little later than normal this morning. I slept in till 5am. Was at our local college at 6am, taught classes and signed autographs till 3pm. Ran and got some sushi for me and the boy to have for supper tonight since we are bachelor's for the weekend. Next up, installing some hardwood flooring for a few hours before I call it a day and relax for a bit. That's a light day for a GOAT

How many taps are you running, Mr. Eggo, sir ??
Yoder, I decided last year it was time to slow up. I currently have between 140 and 150 (lost count ) taps. They are all on tubing. I'm just a small hobby producer. i have about 300-400 I can tap, but these give me all I want to do. I am running a Smokey Lake drop flue evaporator and I don't Reverse Osmosis my sap. I guess I am kind of old school. I make about 15 to 20 gallons of syrup a year and quit when I am tired of doing it. I used to make as much as I could and sell, but I don't sell anymore. I got plenty of takers for free....LOL. I just like blessing my family and friends with it. The FDA and ag inspectors just wanted more and more upgrades to my shack and I decided I didn't want to spend anymore money, it's all paid for. So I make it and give it away and they can shove it where the sun don't shine. Do you make syrup?
I made some recreationally about 20 years ago.......just to see if I could. Hand brace and auger bit......hand-cut pex spiles.......lidded 5 gallon buckets. Maybe ran 30 or 40 taps.
Now, I let my uncle and a good friend tap on our property. They run 300-400 taps, which is hardly even the tip of the iceberg to what's available to them, there. Wood fired evap. My uncle home built (yep....in his garage) the R.O. they're using. I get more syrup, this way....for FREE....than when I worked at it myself. :toothy9: :toothy9:
good for you Yoder. Right now its not been a great season, but prime flows should be ahead. I hope they have a good season. This keeps me busy in the winter months, but it gets a little tougher as I approach the big 70
This big warm-up we've had, at least, oughta make for some good tubing-stringin' weather for those guys.
Gonna take some freezing nights to get the run going, I think. Forecast says they better get their runs strung up in the next few days. Looks like some prime running comin' up.
"Gentlemen" I don't want to do it, believe me, I've been holding off, but I feel it's incumbent upon me now to join or start a team in order to teach you folks a thing or two about wit, wisdom and successful turkey hunting in general.

. See what I told you about outright lies, zobo? Thank goodness us GOATS only have to mildly embellish the truth to have a riveting story. Of course, when you have assembled such a rugged, good-looking, suave, sophisticated, and deadly group such as what we have, it's safe to assume the other teams will do everything they can to try and compete.

Don't you know anything? You have to learn everything about your quarry. Where he eats, where he craps, and obviously where he sleeps. This is just a training technique we use to get familiar with roost trees and how to predict where a gobbler is gonna hit the ground.

That's what's wrong with kids these days..........
I was that size 50 years ago. I'd have been back up and REPEATEDLY had a ball bat across that goat's noggin RIGHT quick.
It would be interesting to see more of the video, before and after. Was the kid tormenting the goat and how did the adults react. Any goat that done that to my kid would have been in serious hurt in a hurry, unless I knew the kid had it coming. My best friend was keeping his son's dog at his house and he snapped at me trying to bite me. I looked right at my best friend and told him, "if the dog bites me I will kill him right on the spot with my bare hands if I have too". He knew darn well I was serious and took the dog away. I have zero tolerance for disobedient pets. If you know the goat bucks then keep him the heck away from people.

35 1/2 years a UPS driver........... I've had to do some pretty drastic things to customers' dogs while they stood there yelling "He doesn't bite !!"
Looked like the goat already got the kid one before by the way he was holding his rear end while he was limping towards the camera away from the goat.
I grew up around livestock my whole life, roosters, billy goats, and bulls. I have fought the first two many times and done some serious evasive maneuvering with the 3rd more than once.

You learned to keep an eye on the troublemakers, kick butt when you could, and run like hell when you couldn't.

I hear you Happy and I also grew up on a farm around all the livestock. You learned which ones to watch out for. I give livestock a pass, but pets that are supposed to be obedient, no pass. Also, we never let people around the ones that had a an attitude. They would always know when someone was new and fair game. They had already learned who we were and where their food came from.

I got butted by a 2,000 pound Brahman bull when I was about that kids age. Four cracked ribs, one broken leg, fractured jaw, 32 stitches and a concussion.
The bull was extremely lucky that I just scraped my knee or he would have gotten it much worse.

Your showing a lot of promise Zobo. I had a battle with a stubborn black angus bull once as well. I went a different route though. Called a local butcher and then went out with a 25-06 and settled that score.
I had a very similar scenario, albeit on a much smaller scale when I was about 12. It involved a big ole Barred Rock rooster who had a penchant for waking me up at 4:30 AM and a VERY bad attitude and a Crosman 10-pump pellet rifle.
Same outcome as for the Angus bull. Just a whole lot easier on the clean-up for me.

I had to execute a woodpecker once.
My wife kept waking me up saying "what's that noise?" I told her "just a little birdy go back to sleep, don't make a big deal out of it."
THEN, later that morning,I walk outside over to the gable end of the house, look up at and see ALL the holes in the PVC$$$ rake board!
The next thought became ....7 1/2' s or 8's? Maybe skeet 9's ... CCI mini mags?
