I will be back in the woods messing with turkeys again this mornning, yeah for me. I know fall hunting isn't real popular here, but i love it. I get way more interaction with the birds than spring hunting. It's just so much more fun then staying home and splitting firewood :)
Love the fall turkey season in NY. It's an awesome time to be in the woods before winter gets here and hunting behind a turkey dog is something everyone should do.
Good luck. Fall gun starts here in a few weeks. I love chasing them in the fall as much as the spring. Deer hunting is just something I do in between turkey seasons.
Good luck Eggshell. I hope you have a great time.

I enjoy the fall woods. Always fun playing with turkeys.
Fall turkey is a lot of fun, great time to be out.
Hope you have a great season
It was a ho hum morning as birds were really quiet and I saw no sign where I usually find birds. I finally found 4 longbeards and I blew my set up and had to let them walk, because I couldn't get a clean shot. Later in the afternoon I got a hen and poult grouo to work, but I am hunting gobblers for now. I am tired and stiff this morning. This old body doesn't stay in shape like the younger version......
Hope you have some luck, wish I could be out there too. Hope to see a picture or two of some Fall birds. Only been doing it 3 years maybe 4 in the Fall but really do enjoy it, may like it more than Spring just because of the weather and the colors.
Here in Tennessee it was all quiet for me yesterday. Saw a lone bird in a corn field on the way home. So far, quiet again this morning. I have seen lots of scratching around the oaks and tracks but it's been a continuation of my spring season. Not hearing any birds or seeing any when hunting.
Been quiet here too. I didn't hunt this morning (church first) but this afternoon I got a lone bird to answer twice and then it went silent and never showes it's self.
Hope you have a good season!
it opens on the 28th here, but I didn't went scouting yet so I don't really know where birds are. Hope I can find them and get on them because it's only one weekend here.

Just curious, the answer you had was a gobble or a yelp?
Just yelp and a cluck, that's all. Today was total silence, but I did see some hens and poults (not what I'm after right now).
Fall Season opens up on October 21st in my area of New York. Over Run with Hens. Looking to Bag one.
October 28th in New Jersey. Looking forward to that opener as well.
Killed another nice fall long beard 11" came in gobbling with his buddies this morning. Got to love them cool fall crisp mornings. Good luck to the other fall gunners!

Nice job :icon_thumright:
Congrats
nice job Hook hanger, It has been a very slow fall here. Birds won't talk and seem to be on the move a lot. I have seen a few, but not got any to work yet. I have let all the hens and young birds pass by so far. There are so many deer feeders anymore they just pile up on them and your screwed, since hunting baited areas for turkey is illegal. It literally makes half my areas off limits. A game warden once told me to stay 300 yards from feeders and I'd be ok, but the law here in Ohio does not define a distance. I wouldn't even want to hunt within 300 yards. I personally would outlaw baiting, but it'll never happen since it's now big business. The local hardware goes through tons of corn for deer bait. A local orchard sells deer apples by the skid. Thankfully all the family landowners agreed to not to allow baiting on all our lands (about 1,000 acres total). Now I watch the turkeys fly off the property when they hear the neighbors feeders go off. It's a half mile across a valley and they still hear it and take off. I know that at 8:00 AM the turkey flock is leaving, so I only hunt afternoons and evening there when they have full bellies and come back to loaf. To boot, the deer hunters cuss me out on public for spooking their deer. I used to fall hunt and never have a conflict or see anyone, it was great. In the last 5 years the whole world has went nuts.
Boy a good rant is therapy for the soul, thanks for listening

I go in just a few hours. Been raining hard. My hunting partner saw a bunch of Scratching at the " Bases Of Trees". Sounds like The work of Gobblers to me. Anyway- we have a plan to sit in that area and,I will be doing some Gobbler Yelping on my Steve Turpin Teak Box with a Beech Lid and a good Gobble or 2 from that Box and see what happens.
Duck Season also opens today and that should move the Turkeys. Hopefully in my direction as these guys are going to be shooting nonstop for awhile.
Hook hanger... Congrats on taking a fine bird.

Oh please turkey god... Send me your dumbest bird, since I don't have much time. :toothy12:
Do you think it can be enough? :toothy12:
Might just do it, ya never know!
Yesterday morning, I Lost Yelped a good 12 times as Loud as,I could on my Uncle Dickie Box. I heard a Gobble a good 30 seconds later at 8am.
It is 5am/Monday as,Iwrite this and,I am going out soon to stand in Gunshot range of where,I heard that Gobble yesterday morning.
It is a plan anyway. Walking in with an Orange Hat on at 6.14am/1hour before Sunrise as Bow Deer Season is open in New York and ,I , don't want to get Arrowed.
Gotta go.
That's awesome, I'm up to my neck in birds right now but I'd really like a G.

Well... It did work... Not so much of a 'dumb' bird, but a bird that wanted things to go fast! I'll do a post later.
