how did your season go i will rate mine at a 10 i got to watch my daughter kill a bird during the youth season i did not kill a bird but had alot of fun got to see alot of awesome things this year including watching a hen fly off roost and smack a big beach tree she fell to the ground but got up and walked away i saw a ton of jakes this year so i have big hopes for the next few years. i only hunted 3 days this year due to a very busy work schedule

About a 7-8. I learned a lot which is always fun. Despite the wet weather, I heard plenty of gobbles. Is it ever enough? I don't think so!
I killed a Jake, a buddy I hunt with on the weekends with me had a rough time, blown hunts, other hunters, hung birds kept him from filling a tag but we had a blast. All up to the last time when we went all or nothing and got in 60 yards on a roosted bird and flew down and went away from us. Thats turkey hunting though!

The season was about a five for me. Even though I was able to harvest 2 fine Gobblers the weather was horrible. Only getting to hunt the weekends and a few evening hunts was hard to get used to this year. Heard plenty of birds but only actually worked 4 birds this year, two of them being yesterday. I enjoyed my time in the spring woods , but I have had better season's.

Probably a 7 here.  I experienced a lot of henned up birds during the beginning of the season, but finally connected.  I called for my brother the rest of the season, but could never quite get them to work for us...heard gobbles, but all hung up.  I'm flat out pumped for 2012 though.  Just got the new T/C ProHunter turkey gun!!!
Pass it on...

I'm gonna give it a 5.  I dealt with a bunch of henned up birds and terrible weather for most of the season.  I killed the only longbeard I actually laid eyes on.  I probably saw close to 50 birds; all but two were hens, and one was a jake that was with the longbeard I killed.  I personally think Ohio needs to push the season back a week.  Start around the 22nd-23rd of April and end around the 23rd of May.

my season was CRAP!!!
hunted everyday and only got on 2 gobbling birds. one of the two i killed.
birds just did not gobble this year. if they did gobble on the roost they shut up tight when they hit the ground. never heard a bird past 8:00am all season. never in 30 years of turkey hunting did i feel relief when it was over until this year
Good things come to those who wait

Ouch brother.  :-\ That just flat sucks. I've never wished it was over. It must've been that bad for you. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm curious, did you hunt in Ohio? If so, where were you hunting?

This the first year since the 1980s that I did not get a chance to hunt Ohio.  The reports I received from a spot in Meigs County were pretty positive.  They still had birds gobbling even on the 14th.  Very seldom did I get a report without the word "rain".

I just checked the ODNR page.  Kill was 18,485 a 21% decrease.  Rain was the biggest factor.  With luck I'll make a fall trip this year.

I rate my season a 7. I only heard one gobble all season at my primary hunting spot in Warren County. I had two other hunters drive their truck in the field I was hunting at 7:15 in the morning, spooking about 10 birds in the field. The bad thing about that is that they saw my truck in the barn lot and drove out anyway. I guess they could not put two and two together that the other truck with turkey licence plates was another turkey hunter. I shot a silent jake that same day. I don't usually like to shoot jakes, but he came into my set up 4 different times, and I knew we had bad weather forcasted for the next several days. By the way, the other hunters no longer have permission on that farm!  My best friend shot his first longbeard ever on his property in Pike County. I called in a really nice three year old gobbler for a friend in Highland County. He left 4 hens in a cut corn field and came running to my calling. That was my first assist ever on a longbeard. I had one close call with a longbeard on the 2nd to last Saturday in Pike County. I fired him up at 11 oclock. As I was cutting the distance between me and him, I would call and check. The last time he gobbled was about 60-70 yards away. I tried to get the a tree in time but he was on me real quick, and got busted standing up. Last day of the season I had two gobblers still on the roost at 11am. Wierd?  I am going to try to get a fall longbeard, since I did not get one this spring.

Good luck on the fall Ohio longbeard.  I bumped into 5 big boys last fall but it was just by accident and they all ran off.  Fall is the time for those hens to pay big time for their spring antics.  One roasted hen equals a great Thanksgiving dinner.  Good luck.

I would have to give his year a strong 9 for me, I hunted the hardest this season due to a quest for "The Ghost" a super longbeard that has out smarted me for two seasons in a row and he did it to me again this year twice!uurrg!
However I did manage to harvest a nice Jake with a 5-1/2"doublebeard the last day of april 45 yard shot bang flop ,and a 3 year old tom 9-1/2" beard 1-1/8" spurs 20 lb. 15 yard head explosion on sat the next to the last day of the season.
I hunted in the rain, storms, etc. due to the thunder I took every advantage of mother nature and was able to set up on 6 different birds the 19th, 20th of april with no luck, they were all henned up! Both birds I harvested were killed on the clear coldest mornings of the season 2nd and 4th week luck. I hated to see it end!
Lord Willing I will hopefully harvest "The Ghost" next season!
