Kentucky non resident will I be allowed to hunt this spring

My buddy and I are having this same discussion. I have hunted Ky for 36 years and never missed, I had plans to come again. I do have private land available and can drive down and back on one tank of gas. We have a trailer to stay in on private ground if we want and no houses for 1/2 mile, but I am still leaning towards not coming as much as it pains me. If we do, it will most likely be a drive down early and drive back the same day without stopping anywhere. Oh yeah I'm in Southern Ohio, it's 1hr and 15 min to my hunting ground. I live in a rural area and have not had any personal contact other than my wife for two weeks. Man I am going to have a massive firewood pile when this is over. I will do some gardening soon though so that'll be a break. I have driven to the local stream to fish solo a couple times.

My hunting buddy in Ky just texted me that Ky suspended sales of turkey permits for non-residents. He is retired From F&w and knows what he's saying is true. So there goes my early hunt. Oh well

Non-Resident Spring Turkey Permit Sales Suspended

Effective immediately, standard nonresident spring turkey permits for 2020 will no longer be sold in order to conform to Gov. Andy Beshear's executive order and current CDC guidelines to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Only non-resident hunters who have already purchased 2020 spring turkey permits, and can comply with the Governor's Executive Order No. 2020-266 should consider hunting in Kentucky during the spring season. The order requires all non-residents who travel to Kentucky to self-quarantine immediately for 14 days upon arrival.

No reason you can't quarantine in the woods for 14 or 50 days. Some people are really making this more than it needs too be. All these stay at home orders are mainly for the scared sheep which automatically comply. You tell me how the government or any state is going to lock you inside your house for a month? You can still go to the grocery store,pharmacy, doctor, so who or how do they know were your going? They wanting to let convicted felons out of jail for fear they will catch the virus....you think it make sense to snatch this guy out of his truck in the middle of nowhere and throw him in jail because he's camping/hunting?
    IF the states closed their hunting season THEN you might have a case, but as it is it's just a bunch of sheep noise bah bah bah, because you let yourself be penned up and not all of us will lol. I'm hunting and I don't talk to anybody on a good virus free year let alone a pandemic. If a game warden decides to question me then he is breaking the social distance policy the sheep love so much.
    I saw a guy the other day driving down the road with a paper face mask and a face shield on and down inside his car with the windows up? If nothing else this whole thing has revealed how timid and easily frightened the average American is nowadays.....boo!

I don't agree with you often Lalongbeard, but this time I agree more than disagree. Our world needs opposing opinions to keep a balance. I usually would have bought my tags by now, but I didn't simply because I was concerned they'd shut us out and they did. what I never thought of was, if I had my tag they'd have to let me hunt or refund my money.  Well they ain't givin no money back. I goofed. This will be the first spring in 36 years I'm not in the Ky woods. The area I hunt is usually 50% out of state tags the first week, the locals are drooling that all that ground is for home boys now. Now if Ohio leaves it open we'll get the overflow traffic. Good for our Wildlife Division, tough for public land hunting. Just think what the state Wildlife Agencies and local economies are loosing in revenue. I broke down what me and my buddy spend in Ky every year.

License $235.00 each x 2  spring                        $470
License Fall                                                     $170.00
Lodging $100.00 average x 9 nights a year           $900.00
Eating and snacks $40 each x 10 days                 $400.00
Gas                                                               $300.00
Incidental purchases                                         $50.00

Total for two of annually (2 spring trips -2 fall)      $2,290.00

Multiply that by thousands of out-of-state hunters and it is a big loss. The communities loose more than the government, again business pays the bill. In the grand scheme of things hunters are not going to be the problem, it's just for show of power and "look I'm doing something". It's politicians positioning themselves to be heroes, just wait until election and see how many are crowing they saved us from Covid-19. Of course a hunter could spread the virus, but go sit on a state line and count the cars crossing, where are those cars going? Then consider one out of a thousand might be a traveling hunter, yeah makes a lot of sense, doesn't it. Let them hunt and encourage them to distance. Lodging will be the biggest issue as most motels won't take your reservation. So if your not camping or have a place your pretty restricted. I have ground to hunt that is only 1 1/2 hrs from my house, I could just drive it daily and never stop other than to hunt. Yes I agree it's fear driving the ship, but I agree with taking any step that is reasonable.

Our Illinois season opens tomorrow and I just saw a truck opening a gate to property down the road from me. It has KENTUCKY plates! We can go into KY to hunt but they can slip out to hunt Illinois?

Man. So glad to read this!! I was beginning to think I was the only one that could think for himself and not hibernate soon as one person says "we issuing a stay at home order"

I'm amazed at what I'm seeing being asked on social media! For instance. Ms has a stay at home order, BUT says the wmas are open and outdoor activities are fine in small groups!

And with that said, there's people actually saying you can't go do those activities because the sentence that says stay at home order except for essential needs!!!! Like god damn, they basically say you can still hunt but people want to argue against it!!!!

I've been crossing state lines weekly to hunt. There aren't any check points or people getting pulled over for Christ sake! They dnt have real legal standings so they make blanket statements to Hope fear works and nobody tries it. And look around how easy it works!!

Sad times for America man, in times of crisis we donate our guns to be melted down and hoard toilet paper. Laughing stock of the world, thank god we have a military because if it's ever left to the general public we'd be under a different power in no time!

Be smart, stay away from gatherings and get out there and HUNT! What's the WORST CASE SCENARIO?? You get told to leave??? Cmon I'll take that anyday

Agreed with everyone's concerns. But let's all agree on what self quarantining is. I would think that a solo turkey hunter, who wears face protection (this year I switched to camo thicker cotton hoodie) and drives away from civilization to hunt really is self quarantining. I get it, staying over night or camping could be outside this. But in my case, few hour hunts totally solo, without stopping anywhere but my deep woods parking spot keeps me and the residents safe. I have been hunting this spot for 25 years, and I never ran into anyone. I am confident that I pose no danger to the locals here. My truck parks miles from any dwelling. Good luck, be safe, and we will prevail.....

This will put the LBL quota debacle on the back burner. Just for fun brought up the LBL alerts.  Appears they will still have a general season but all campgrounds appear closed.  Didn't see back country camping mentioned. Of course if you didn't already have a non-res license your out of luck anyway. They still selling non-resident fishing?

Seems TN is taking a different approach.  If the info I just read is current you would be good to go.
