12 Year Old Birthday Gift Recommendation

My 12 year old son has just asked for a turkey call for his birthday.  I know it is late notice due to the time of year, but I thought about getting him a custom box call.  He does okay with a slate or glass call, but seems better with a box call.  This first week of being out of school he has spent watching a lot of turkey hunting videos trying to learn.  He has worked on a box call and his mouth calls all week practicing to get better. 

Any recommendations for a hunting "grade" call that a 12 year old would have success with?   I would like above average quality.  I have tried to research the forum, but I am finding it difficult to determine the right wood combination and call maker.  I really do not know how much I should spend on a call for him to help him succeed.  I do not want to go cheap and make it more difficult, but I also know he is a 12 year old that is still learning to take care of his equipment. 

He has not killed a turkey yet though he has killed a couple of deer and a bunch of coyotes.  I let him do all the calling when we go hunting trying to let him do everything except driving the truck.

Any S&S box would be a great starter call for him. I would give Al a call or pm him. You wont be disappointed.

Spring Creek would be another option, nice guy and customer service.

Halloran Purple heart / Cedar is a great option . runs easy with the heavy lid and watched him kill em everywhere last year with it .

Whoever makes it would probably personalize it to him however you want. I think Halloran will do laser engrave also how you want i thought i seen somewhere.

Excellent recommendations I have a kwila over poplar and it's a great call. There are some other good ones also but SS will sound as good as any
