Turkey 2020 projects
March 18, 2020, 08:28:11 AM
Here's a few things I did yesterday to get ready for turkey season this year. Staying away from big groups equals messing around with turkey hunting equipment.
I bought a new gobbler chair and drilled a bunch of holes in it to reduce weight. This was a lot of work for not much of a result I'm afraid.
I grabbed a can of spray paint and did a quick light spray over my shotgun, tripod, and chair.
I cut the double pot pocket off the front of my nomad vest. I didn't like how far it stuck out. It makes a nice pocket that I could keep a couple extra calls in and throw in the back of the vest.
What last minute preps are y'all doing?

Got the rifle sights on my gun sighted in yesterday. Got to clean the gun and load some more shells. Need to spray my clothes for ticks and going to spray water proofing on my boots, past that I think I am ready.
I admire a guy that will rattle can a gun, I just have no artistic talent and always fearful what it will look like. That rattle can job will do great!

Ticks are real bad. Spray is smart. I even bought the game hide tick pants, socks, and shirt. Works great, when I wear them, no ticks.... Your camo job looks great, good luck.......be safe....

I'm definitely no paint pro. I'm trying to let go of my ocd and just let it rip with the paint. I'd love to dip it in bottomland but any extra money I have at this point needs to go towards gas money. Treating my clothes is next on the list. Permethrin has worked great for me.

I need to check the zero on my scope and buy some more permethrin, I've sprayed one jacket and pair of pants but I had less than half a can and used it all on those. Found a tick on my pants Saturday when I got home from listening so I knew it was time to do it. I may pattern a few different shells in a Winchester shotgun I have just to see how they look out to 40 but other than that it's scout, scout, scout.

A buddy and I went to our lease on Monday and fertilized our clover plots. With our temps climbing into the 60's and 70's, they are looking incredible. The poults and other wildlife will eat well this season.
As others have said, break out that Permethrin and spray EVERYTHING you wear. Your health will Thank You but the ticks and red bugs won't.

My season starts Saturday so I am pretty much done with all my prep. Patterned my gun yesterday with Longbeards #5 3" 1 7/8 ounce loads. I would post some pics but Everytime I try to it always says file to large. Already sprayed my gear with permithrin. And got my calls ready to go, I did receive some strikers from JLH (Jeff) on Monday a Macassar, Bloodwood, Frogwood and weighted Hickory so I need to mess around with those before Saturday morning. But other than that I think I am good to go.

I need to shake the pine straw out of my vest game pouch that's about it. Vest hangs on the gun rack by the door all year calls and all, grab some shells and go. I did notice the brass bead is still on the barrel so I'm good hasn't changed "zero" in about 25 years.
If you make everything easy how do you know when your good at anything?
