Hey Guys,
Well it was finally a beautiful day in Georgia so I got out to do a little pattern testing.  I really like what I saw out of the #9 TSS loads today.  This is what I'll be shooting come opening day in a few weeks.  I also did a penetration test at 40 yards with a piece of .010" Galvanized roof flashing. 100% of the pellets passed through no problem.  I did this test last year and today with Longbeard XR #6 where only 5 or 6 pellets actually passed through(the others just left a dent).

My son and I each have a x3-long beard. Our 20 yd patterns look like yours, now our 40's are no doubt considerable better.  I'm shooting a .585 truelock and he a .555 indian creek. Our 40's are 320-350ish with the remaining in the 20" circle. We are shooting hand loaded 1 /58 and 2 oz loads though.  Are the Federal loads just 1 1/2 oz ?
Don't gobble at me...

That Longbeard choke is throwing a pretty pattern.  The Code Black is way too tight for the areas I hunt-but it may work well for you.

Either way, looks like you're good to go!  Best of luck this season!

My WIN. SX3 Long Beard w/ an IC .555  just flat out smashes the turkey's head with TSS #9.  You can barely see the outline of the head !!!

RiverRoost

Very nice. Did you get a pellet count on the 40?

I bought the SX3 last year and have been working on my setup.   I'm hand loading 1 5/8oz Tss #9s and getting the best results with a Carlson TSS .565 choke.   Attached is my 50 yard pattern from last night, Numbers of 192/172

50 yard pattern on left, 40 yard on the right.   I'm very happy with the results and not going to change anything with the setup at this point.

Reddog1966

I wouldn't change it either. Those are good looking patterns at 40 and 50. Good luck this season.

First bird with sx3 using hand rolled TSS #9s   Paper patterns backed up by the real deal.

Thanks, probably one of the best looking rio's I've ever killed.
