Got some new snake boots

I know several posts have been made recently regarding snake boots/gaiters. I've owned a few different kinds of snake boots over the years, and one pair of gaiters. Most recently I have been using the gaiters more than anything, but they don't offer foot protection, so I decided to try to find a pair of boots that don't kill my feet.

First off, I purchased Danner Vital 17" boots...the camo version that is "waterproof". After trying on several pairs, these seemed to be the only ones that didn't initially dig into my feet/ankles terribly. That has always been my hang-up with snake boots. In order to have yourself protected, you usually sacrifice comfort as the material is not as pliable, and therefore digs into your ankles and foot...at least in my experience.

I have been wearing them around a little bit, and while I haven't been able to go out scouting in them yet to put several miles on them, so far they are comfortable. They aren't any hotter than any of the other brands I have had in the past (IS, Cabela's, Rocky, Danner Pronghorn), and seem to be lighter than all but the Irish Setters, and comparable with them.

So far I am pleased...guess I'll know for sure in the next few weeks!

I have the same problem around my ankles with snake boots. I just skip that set of laces. Gives me a little more room.

Been with Danner for about 4 years, out lasted, very comfortable. Had them all, expensive but worth it. Maybe get another year or two out of them.

For the past three or four years I've worn Danner Sharptail snake boots, best I've ever owned hands down. Just as comfortable as a good pair of work boots, and pretty tough. I've put a lot of miles on them. They're pretty expensive, but if I blew a hole in them tomorrow I'd have another pair bought by the end of the day.

I picked up a pair of Irish Setter Vaprtrek's back around Christmas, on sale for $100.  I wore them several times during deer season on not-so-cold days and have been more than pleased.  It feels like wearing a light hiking boot.

Snake gaiters could be a option

Snake gaiters could be a option

As I mentioned in my post, I have tried gaiters. They work just fine, but they don't cover my foot adequately for me to feel completely safe wearing them.
