Need help with 935

New 935 22” barrel- LBXR 3.5” #6s
I’ve shot the ultifull .695, tightwad .690, undertaker .695 and the Truglo SSX .670
All have shot weak patterns at 40 yards. 50-75 in 10”.
That is the load I would like to shoot in this gun as it has worked extremely well in my remingtons and benellis.

My point of aim is on. Installed Williams fire sights and dialed them in at 20. Patterns look good and 20 but not punching a hole like I’m accustom to with LBXR.

Try a deep cleaning then a 3 inch load. My 835 does much better with the 3 inch. Please keep us posted. Good luck.

I had the same problem with a 935 but it was shooting a foot high!

My 24" 935 with a Trulock .670 LB choke puts 270 in the 10 at 40 yards with that load.

That SSX .670 should be a Great choke in that 935 with the LB's.  The Mossy's love chokes in the .670 to .680 range.  A couple of things 1. How big of a piece of paper are you shooting at?  It should be at least 30" x 30"  2. Have you sighted the gun in with dove loads at about 15 yards to get POA/POI?  As you stated, you should be blowing a big hole in the paper at close range. 3. What does the barrel look like inside?  Have you cleaned and polished the barrel?  These things helped me with a 300 plus pattern with Hevi 7's pattern with my 835.

That SSX .670 should be a Great choke in that 935 with the LB's.  The Mossy's love chokes in the .670 to .680 range.  A couple of things 1. I was shooting at probably a 4ft piece of cardboard, replacing the paper every shot. I sighted the fire sights in at 20 yards (initially was shooting 10” high).

I have not cleaned and polished the barrel. I pulled it straight out of the box and took it to the range. Im hoping I do not have to deep clean the barrel to get a good hunting pattern. Is it that crucial or will that just help clean up flyers and possibly gain 10%?

If it was me, I would check my POA/POI with dove loads at 12-15 yards.  2 reasons 1. you should get a BIG hole at that range which should verify or disprove your POI with the Firesights  2. It will give you a GOOD base for the 3 1/2's.  Not sure what your barrel looks like but my 835 had machining marks in it and the cleaning and polishing removed them.  I can't say how much the C and P helped because I did it before putting any rounds down range.  That SSX and 3 1/2 6 LB's should be putting up numbers around 180-200 at 40 though.  Clark Bush (allaboutshooting) has done a TON of experimenting with SSX choke and 3" LB's.  Contact him here at OG (allaboutshooting) and get his input.  Here's one of his Blog articles https://allaboutshooting.com/blogs/blog/98768775-patterning-the-935?_pos=1&_sid=43a5772c2&_ss=r  Hope this helps.

Id have a gunsmith take a look at your barrel. Likely could be the choke threads aren't concentric to the bore(crooked). I 've been shooting a 935 for years and you should be getting at least 150 in the 10" @ 40 yards with any of your chokes and those Longbeard #6s. Mossberg has great C.S. and will take care of you if need be.

Well, since nobody is going to mention the GLARINGLY OBVIOUS.  Are the loads you're shooting NEW?  New lots or older, original stock?  There have been a number of hunters reporting issues with the new lot LBs throwing horrible patterns.  Most are thinking the buffer resin is the issue...

They are new. I haven’t heard that.  Never could get them to pattern well. I gave up on them. TSS 9s did well.

I patterned my 835 yesterday and was shooting Winchester Longbeards 3" #5 and 6 1 7/8 ounce loads. The #6 were shooting really good for me out to 30 yards but after that for some reason started falling apart after that. I liked them because they were a little more open at closer range then the #5. But I went with the #5 because they were really good at 40 and 45 yards. Luckily I have a red dot scope in case of anything inside 25 yards or so.

First pic is at 45 yards second is at 20. I did deep clean my gun first also. I would recommend you try it. It does help a lot, I have never polished mine but deep clean them every year before the season. After I pattern my guns I run boresnake with hopped #9 through it. I am not sure why the #6 just fell apart after 30 yards and both types of ammo were brand new boxes.
