...but no upgrade boys. Had a family hunt over the past 3 days with friends and thier kids. All fairly new or first time turkey hunters so I was in my glory running around trying to fill tags. Long story short there was a total of 9 longbeards I brought close or into gun range but a combination of being pinned down, kids moving, a miss, and using a gun with no choke so the 40 yds needed to be 30, I was the only one who actually pulled the trigger and killed one.

Even the one I shot my buddy was the shooter with the bird strutting as close as 15 yds in front of him. I was off to the side 10 yds away and couldn't figure out why he wasn't shooting. When the bird finally figured out he had been had I raised my gun and shot him. My buddy never raised his gun because he had a bush in his way and the barrel was pointing out away from where the turkey was coming from. A little inexperience to not get the gun up and pointing in the right direction before the bird is right in front of you (especially when you have a big 30 inch duck barrel). After the all action which had not resulted in a kill I was not going to let this guy walk away without a big headache.

NC, he hit just under 20 on the old spring fish scale. It's a little sticky so I'm sure if I oiled it he would of pulled a couple more pounds  ;) ;D

His beard was 9 1/2 and his spurs were 7/8 with the tip busted off and 1 1/16 and split down the middle. Clearly this guy was a fighter and I am guessing a 3 yr old bird. This property I worked a total of 7 longbeards over 2 days. Now I think 2 of them might of been ones I had worked a couple times but there was defintley at least 5 of them running around there. Seems there was fighting going on with all those fellas competing with one another.

Congrats to you for being a great "Outdoor Mentor".  Just look at all those smiling faces.

Now you got me wondering just where I can find a 200 year old stump to use as the stage for my next outdoor group photo!

I cried when the neighbour cut that big oak down. She said it was dying but when they cut it down it was healthy. Big old oaks will always have limbs die off. The real reason is they got a steel roof put on and when the acorns fell it sounded like a shotgun going off inside thier place I am sure. Not a fair trade if you ask me. Trees like that should be around forever if possible. I killed a gobbler that used to roost in that big ole oak when no one was at camp.
