Just put what works best for you on that hung up gobbler just out in the distance

I give him the quiet treatment for 5 minutes, and if he doesn't commit, I use a soft purr-putt mixed in with soft clucks..The key word here is soft..It drives them wild. I use a pot call for this..Try it..Mike
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?
If attacked by a mob of clowns, go for the juggler.

Patience...soft and I mean SOFT calls...a little leaf scratching

Anything from blowing his ears out with calling to silence.  If he hangs up I'll  usually start with the silent treatment to see if that troubles him and peaks his interest.  If he has already proven himself to be really reserved, I likely will not drastically pick up the calling.  I have, however, tried to turn them inside out with calling and had that work as well.  Its all about trying to read the bird..........and I won't ever claim to be an expert at that.

If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

All these tactics mentioned will work, I usually try them all at some point while working a bird, you just never know what and when something changes in his tiny little brain that makes him move.  I don't fear doing anything in that he might spook as long as it is natural.  Time is usually what helps to kill a testy bird.

soft feeding purrs, scratching the leaves and then total silence.
