I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of the 35.  Most retinal detachment is a cause of the aging process, surgery to the eye or diabetes.  I'm 62 and have been nearsighted since I was around 6.  My eye doctor, that I see every year, has instructed me to be on the look out for the symptoms of a retinal tear for several years and most of the symptoms are from a thinning of the retina.  Here's a great read https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/retinal-detachment/symptoms-causes/syc-20351344  I would read up on retinal detachment and have a discussion with your surgeon and or eye doctor with plenty of questions.  My thing with you saying the 35 caused the injury from recoil, what is a 12 gauge shooting turkey loads going to do in the future?
