Shot this guy this mourn about 8. Hunting this part WI for the 1st time. Driving along a wma with private between road and public stopping to listen for roost gobbles. Heard none but seen a hen cross the road heading to private between road and public. Access point is about a mile north of where I seen her. Figuired if she's going that direction so early in the mourn there must be some toms in there. I get to the access and head into the woods with the help of onx hunt. Get down the trail about 100 yds and a tractor fires up and starts discing the field close to where I seen the hen adjacent to public land. Get past where tractor is and things start getting a little quieter so I sit and listen. Nothing. After about 20 min I get up and sneak about 300 yards further into woods. Start to see old turkey scratchings. Not the best sign but it is sign. Sit down along the public border with some small private clearings and get rdy to call. About that time a kennel of hounds start making a rukus. Between the hounds and the tractor it's not really the peaceful kind of mourn I had invisioned. Call a little bit and nothing. Get up to traverse along the border and run into about a 10 yr old clear cut. It's thick in there. Decide it's time to head back to the truck. Get back to where farmer was discing the field (he finished about an hour earlier) and think to myself I could see there being turkeys out there eating what ever might have been turned up. About that time a Tom fires of in the field. As I get closer he's being harrassed by some crows and gobbling every 30 seconds. I slip off the trail into the woods about 80 yds from the private field and set up. I call but no response. A crow calls and he gobbles. I call no response. A crow calls and he gobbles again. I wait. He gobbles and I yelp. No response. A crow calls and he double gobbles but has cut the distance in half. Another gobble and he closer still. I wait. 15 seconds later I see him. He's 35 yds directly in front of me cutting to my left strutting and drumming. He crosses the trail I was on. Clears some deadfalls. I cluck. Head goes up and bang! He goes down.
Thinking he was all fired up because the farmer discing the field at 5:30 in the mourn kept him from his strut zone and gathering his hens. By the time I met up with him about 7:45 he was all horned up looking for his gals. A couple calls from me and he came running. Not the back and forth type of hunt I was hoping to end the season on but I'll take it seeing as I never been in this area before.

If I happen to hear a gobble here in PA I think I would go into shock. LOL!

Congrats!! Pretty interesting hunt. Goes to show all that racket doesnt run them off.

A few years back I had a guy come into a field running his dogs when I was working a couple birds. All those birds did was tuck back into a small wood lot. The dogs ran by that wood lot a few times and the dog owner walked by there twice. I snuck right up there and 1/2 hour later after the dogs were gone I called them back out and boom.
