Well the PA and NY openers Saturday and Sunday turned out to be busts.  Got on them in Sat. morning and set up the way they usually fly down, I did the whole fly down routine and they decided to take off downhill with the hens.  Sounded like they were moving along the ridge so i went down to try to cut them off but they went onto another property I don't have permission to hunt.  So I went up to the field i was on first thing and spooked one.  Walked up the hill a little bit and didn't get on any and I had to get out of the woods by 9:30 to go to a wedding :'( NY opener on Sunday was more of the same.  Yesterday I didn't hear any gobbles on the property so set up on the edge of the field I was in on Saturday, set up a decoy and did some calling every few minutes.  A little before 8:00 two jakes came walking down to my left and I flattened him.  Set up worked how I hoped it would.  Too bad it wasn't a longbeard.   One more tag for PA and 2 for NY so hopefully I will be able to upgrade

Congratulations on your turkey!  I have two more hunts to make before the season ends on Saturday - if I don't score a bird it will be my first season in three years without taking one.
"I admire a good turkey hunter chiefly because such a man displays qualities that we usually associate with pioneer America-patience, enthusiasm, woodcraft, game sense, and a quiet hardihood undaunted by rain, by cold, by long tough miles, by disappointment."
