Trumpet Calling Question

This is my second season  using a Trumpet and I really like running one. 90% of the time I can produce decent Yelps and Clucks, but 10% of the time I have trouble making a sound with out over drawing on the Trumpet. I think it has to do with the lip seal on the lip stop or my mouth is dry.

Does any one else have this problem and how did you correct it?

Dry mouth is killer for a trumpet.  Happens to me fairly often.

I will sometimes take a peppermint or cough drop that helps with dry mouth for me

There's more than one way to run one. Running dry requires more lip pinch and front mouth suction. That's not the way that sounds nicest to everyone's ear, but it kills turkeys and doesn't require special conditions.

Happenes to me all the time. If my lips get dry I don't make any sounds. Lip medic works good but have to reapply throughout the day.

This is what I do sometimes I have to really bare down on lip pressure and sometimes my lips hardly have any pressure. Mornings are the worst for me.

I can not run a trumpet if i put Chap Stick on.

I can't either Ben.  Makes it too slick and I can't maintain that sweet spot.

Thanks also, I've never thought about candy to keep my mouth wet. Dry mouth kills me early in the morning when I first wake up.

My dentist says I have very active saliva glands.  She acted like that was a good thing, I guess she knows how it can help run a trumpet.

Same deal here.  Good for trumpets, not so much for mouth calls.

I tend to have too much saliva, but that doesn't seem to be problematic for me.
