Favorite loads in 25 round boxes

Since I pheasant hunt as well, I like to have an all-around shell that can serve double duty and keep the cost per shell low. My Remington 870 12 gauge has always done well with Remington NitroMag 2 3/4, 1.5 oz, #4's. Great turkey patterns with thier extra full choke out to 40 yards, then I use the same shell with the modified choke for pheasants between 25-45 yards reliably.
My old 16 gauge go to shell has always been Wincester Super X 1-1/8oz, #6's, these pattern super tight with the fixed full choke at 20-25 yards, yet opened up evenly from 30-40 yards.
I still haven't tested enough loads with my 20 gauge fixed full choke to see what a good double duty load will be.

Dawi,  what chokes and in what shotgun did you shoot these shells? How many and what range? Many thanks for any information. Iam looking a good number 4 load in my twenty gauge. Thanks again, cluck

No offense intended, but one man's "great" and another man's "great" can be completely different. Betting those Rem Nitromags won't put 100 4s in a 10" circle at 40 yds. Anything less is not "great" to me.

been using the rem nitros in #6 and 2 3/4 out of a rem 1100 LT with a 28in barrel and the wife and i have total of 37 birds, our patterns are good enough to drop birds out to 33paces which works for us, as you did say good for one might not be for another, good luck to all russ

The Winchester super x high brass #6 has always done well out of my dads old 2 3/4" Stevens 20 gauge fixed full.  Smokes them at 30, a good even pattern at 35 but starting to open up, and just enough at 40 to get the job done if it is a wide open shot.  Of course that old gun is a stone cold killer.  With the 2 3/4" in federal hwt it put 75 in a paper plate at ten yards further than what we are supposed to talk about, so that may just be a fluke of a good shooter.

Ive been using the Remington Nitros, 3", in 12 gauge with the 1 3/4
loads almost forever now. I use #4 on Fox and yotes. I use "6 on turkey and it drops them silly. Sometimes if I can't find the shot I want I get #5 shot and have had good luck shooting everything with them but I prefer the #6 shot for turkey, pheasant and grouse. I like the #4 or 5 shot for squirrels because they have a tough hide. I love Nitros, but everyone has their own preference. I like a box of 25 shells for as much hunting I do, instead of switching back and forth with turkey loads and small game shells. Just more convenient for me and I've had excellent success.
