Recoil reducing stock for 835.

I bought a Mossberg 835 about 5 years ago.  The recoil is just brutal when shooting Heavy Shot 3.5'' shells.  Getting to be just too much recoil for my 70 year old body.  Are there any aftermarket stocks for the 835 that will significantly reduce recoil?

Black Hawk Spec ops gen II makes a recoil reducing stock for a lot of shotguns. I know they have one for a Moss 500. Not sure if they make one for the 835 but Ill bet they do. I had one for my Moss 500 but it was a no recoil reducing (you can get it either way) so It unfortunately did not have the internal springs but it was a good stock-collapsible which made it convenience to carry.

Find some 2 3/4 or 3 inch 1 5/8 loads under 1200fps or jump to a 20ga

I want the range that the 3.5'' #7 shells give me.  My son has a 935 choked the same.   He only gets to hunt turkey 1 day a year.   Only been hunting turkey about 10 years and have passed on shooting a bird.  Basically been scouting for when he can hunt with me.  Only hunt 2 small properties and didn't want to kill a bird that he might be able to get.  Now, I'm ready to shoot a bird while I can still hunt.  Both of our guns will kill a turkey at 60 yards with the 3.5'' #7 shot.  They will put about 345 shot in a 10''  circle at 40 yards.

If I really wanted a recoil reducing stock, I might look at the ISIS recoil reducing systems:

But honestly, I see no reason for 3.5" shells.  If birds are in range, all that extra shot does is cause flinching.  In waterfowl hunting, I think more hunters start shooting poorly and missing more birds due to shooting 3.5" shells.

I have not lost a single bird shooting Hevi-shot #6's (generally 1.25 oz of shot) out of a standard full choke.  Granted, the vast majority of my birds are 35 yards or under, but I did make a goof last year and killed one out just past 45 yards, and he flopped like the rest of them.

Honestly, they are not going to tame the recoil much. The 3.5" recoil is brutal. I don't even like the 3" with the recoil reducing stock and ported barrel.
It is my belief a good recoil pad and a ported barrel is more tolerable than the recoil reducing stock as it directs the recoil in a more traditional manner.

Hey Jim, I shoot the same 835 you do with the 3 1/2 Hevi 7's and have for 10 years now.  Here's what I did to reduce the recoil down to what I believe is a 20 gauge.  If you have the hollow stock, do these 3 things and you will have a gun that won't kill on both ends.  First get a limbsaver for it.  Two, take the recoil pad off the stock and add about 4 to 6 ounces of weight to the rear of the stock.  I went to Wally world and purchased a piece of Styrofoam and cut it down to fit the hollow area of the stock snugly.  I used some lead shot, put it in a sock, duct taped the sock well and fit it tightly in the very end of the stock (no rattle and it helps balance the gun).  Replace the recoil pad with a limbsaver and Three, I didn't like the cheek slap so I added a Beartooth Comb raising kit.  This kit has various thicknesses of foam and neoprene sleeve to hold everything secure on the stock.  I used about a 1/2" rise because I added a Red dot to my 835.  For about $30 to $40, you will have a very calm 3 1/2" 835.  If you have any questions, send me a PM.  I'm 61 and I love shooting those Hevi 7's.

I have the recoil reducing stock on my 870 supermag and i love it.  It takes the punch out of the recoil and makes it more like a shove is the best way i can describe it.
