:turkey2:On Saturday, April 6, 2019 I arrived at my hunting club at 6:00 am. Took the ATV to the hunting site and set up my doghouse blind and as I was setting up around 6:30 am, I heard a tom gobbling in the distance. Once I was set up i used a pot call and starting yelping. I did this every 10 or so minutes. At 9:30 am I heard a louder gobble coming up from behind me. I did a couple of clucks on the pot call. About 10 minutes later, looking to the left out of the little window in the blind, the tom appeared. He was looking straight at the blind and then moved forward. I got the shotgun up and waited for him to come around in front for the shot. As I was waiting, it seemed like it took a very long time for him to show. Once he did, he was behind a couple of small trees head raised and looking at the two decoys I had out. He lowered his head, moved forward behind two more trees. After that he moved forward and raised his head and I fired. I ran out to the bird and stood on his neck for a couple of minutes as I thanked my Lord God for the harvest. First turkey hunt, first tom. I am hooked.
I harvested the breast meat and am having the bird mounted. Beard is 10 inches long.
