Young buddy connected with me Friday 3/22/19

Had some time to hunt Friday morning before work.  Heath(kid that was with me last saturday that had his gun misfire) and I had a chance to get back after them and attempt to get him a bird.

It was a beautiful morning with temps in the upper 30s and highs in the low 70s for the day. Morning started early with plenty of gobbling on the limb.

We managed to slip within 150 yds of 5-6 gobblers on the limb. They were roosted right on the edge of an old bluff. Generally these turkeys will either pitch onto your side or down into the bottom below. Unfortunately these decided to pitch across the creek and down into the bottom. They probably gobbled 100 times on the limb. Once on the ground they gobbled 3-4 times and that was it. Still dealing with plenty of hens. We stayed put for about a while before deciding to get up and attempting to find a gobbler that wanted to play the game.

We left this particular area around 8:30 and started to hunt our way out as we had to leave around 9:30. We were moving a little slower getting out and stopped to yelp at the last spot about 300 yds from the truck at 9:45. A bird cut us off immediately not 80 yards out in front. He was off the edge of an old slough. Blood is pumping now. We eased back about 25 yds and got situated. Not 3 minutes later I can hear drumming out in front off to the left. One gobbler steps out into the road and right behind him came the strutter. Heath could never get a shot on the strutter but got a clear opportunity at the first bird and ended up rolling him at about 15 yds.

Always fun when they catch you off guard like that. Was extremely glad his gun didn't misfire this time!

Was a fine gobbler with an 11.5"  beard and sharp 1" spurs.
