I am looking at putting together a slate over glass call.  What are some recommendations for a good wood for the pot?

Use what you like, not what someone else likes.

Sound-wise, I don't hear a huge difference, so I usually opt for the cheapest I can find when I'm making them.  That usually ends up being Poplar.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

Red Cedar. White  Oak is great if you want a slate that is higher pitched and loud.

Cottonmouth

Walnut for medium pitch and maple for a little higher pitch for me. Can change everything with the striker, too.
