Mountain Merriam's.

The majority of time at 10,000 ft. it snowed and when it didn't we had wind gust near 70 mph.the birds didn't gobble,but who needs a turkey to gobble to kill him anyway.I had been eyeing a ridge top that I knew birds had to be using and set a blind up for my Wife to video.I set up on a big Ponderosa pine 35 yards away and hit the slate with a plain yelp with no response.next call I hit the tube hard as here goes the wind gust again and I hear a hen yelp back.I give a little kee kee run and a juvenile gobbler yelps back with a half gobble.I did likewise and the game was on.I started to see the mountain top fill with birds and head straight for me.I started voice yelping as they came to within 10 ft.I knew the mature bird had to be bringing up the rear as he would of lost time displaying up the mountain side.three of the birds adjusted their wings as they always do once they become supicious,but it was too late as he was well within range when I spotted him.
The Wife got some video as they crossed the mountain top and nearly jumped out of her skin when the Remington barked.
A great trip to New Mexico and I look forward to my trip next year.

I killed in elk in Cloudcroft back in '98 and there were a lot of birds there.
